Job Description

NBC Bay Area and Telemundo 48 in San Jose, CA (KNTV/KSTS) have an opportunity for a Photographer.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Cover local news and participate in the newsgathering and editorial processOperate camera, sound, lighting, editing equipment and live truck to cover live and taped eventsRespond quickly to breaking news while taking direction and interacting with the assignment desk, reporters/anchors, production, control room, and appropriate Telemundo/NBC personnelInteract with the assignment desk, reporters/anchors, production, control room and acquisition personnelOperate station issued equipment to the fullest and within all required safety guidelinesProficient in HD lighting, HD videography, non-linear editing with Edius and Premiere Pro, Dalet editing, microwave truck operations, editing and feeding from the pit, recording Skype interviews, phone interviews, Live U and DejeroUnderstand and practice all NBC safety standards and ethicsMaintain equipment and vehicles by doing preventive maintenance and inspectionsTeam with others to produce daily storiesGather compelling video, natural sound and work with others to make sure it makes newscastAt direction of the assignment desk respond to breaking news obeying all traffic lawsUse courtesy and respect at all times and take extra caution when in the public’s eyeAttend editorial meetings to gain better understanding of overall processTake annual safety trainingBe competitivePerform APC duties or other technical tasks as requestedWork closely with News Management, Operations, On-Air Reporters and other newsroom personnel to gather high-quality visual elements and collaborate on informative news storiesHeld to the highest journalistic standards

Desired Characteristics:

Bilingual: Spanish and English; both written and verbalDegree in Broadcast Journalism/ProductionMust be self-motivated, collaborative and possess a high level of creativity to tell stories with sound and images ; strong NPPA-style preferredProficiency in Edius and Premiere Pro a plusExcellent photographer in Newsgathering, News production, station promotions and other general station projects as assignedWork independently and capture informative and reliable newsgathering video and audio for broadcastPossess strong news judgmentWork with others efficiently under daily deadline pressureSolve technical issues in the fieldSatellite truck operation

Qualifications

 

Minimum 5 years of experience in News Camera/Field Photography3-5 years’ experience in a top ten marketMust adhere to Environmental Health & Safety standards and regulationsMust be able to lift up to 35 pounds of equipment at a given timeCable Reeler (23 pounds)Omni Kit (33 pounds)Shoulder mount camera (20-25 pounds)TVU, LiveU, Dejero (portable units) – ranging from 11-18 poundsMust be able to stand for at least 2 hours at a time (in breaking news situations, may need to stand for longer periods of time – up to 8 hours)Must be able to operate a live truckPortable microwave gear experienceMust be able to maneuver small spaces (in/out of vehicles and to be able to take camera shots in tight spaces)Must be able to sit for up to 2 hours at a time (i.e. for editing purposes)Must be fully knowledgeable in all aspects of ENG field operationsMust be proficient working with Edius edit v.5, and newer, systemsMust be Proficient in the Panasonic P2 workflowMust be able to operate a microwave truckMust have strong understanding of computer/IT workflowsMust understand File Transfer ProtocolsJob requires the ability to perform well outside in all types of weather and with a high degree of self-sufficiency

Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000 DOE
