The Office of University Communications at the University of Virginia seeks an experienced, professional photographer to support the office’s core mission of showcasing the University as a model of excellence in public higher education through effective and engaging communications and marketing. The photographer will produce visual content from conceptualization through to distribution.
As a member of University Communications’ talented, collaborative and dynamic Creative team, the photographer will capture compelling images that communicate the essence of UVA, including its vibrant student experiences, the splendor of Grounds, remarkable research endeavors, and exciting athletics and community-wide events. The photographer will collaborate with colleagues across the department, including on the Marketing, Digital, Licensing, and News & Content teams, as well as with other partners across the University. The photographer will also support the video producers as they develop audio and video content.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works as part of Creative Team for University Communications, partnering with colleagues across Marketing, Digital, Licensing, and News & Content verticals to address communications and visual storytelling opportunities.Works with the Senior Photographer to determine and schedule photo assignments.Is responsible for all phases of creating, editing, manipulating, and archiving creative content.Interacts with other creative professionals to realize vision and ensure products meet the needs of organizational leadership.Helps manage Canto, the digital asset management system, and our brand photography catalog (BrandDot), for the University. This includes ensuring that organization is followed, file structures are upheld, and catalogs are within compliance.Organizes and manages photography shoots as assigned, including direction of photo shoot participants for portrait and day-in-the-life content.Aids in the organization and management of video shoots. Aids in the direction of video participants.Manages concurrent projects utilizing our project management system, Asana, to meet deadlines, maintains schedules, contacts subjects, and communicates these tasks to project stakeholders.Helps develop the brand and style of photography for the University.Maintains the University's graphics standards, techniques, and methods.Works with multimedia team to ensure management and upkeep of files, including archiving projects, purging, and maintenance. Is responsible for multimedia equipment and its maintenance and storage.REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
5 years of professional experience as a photographerProficient with a range of digital cameras and lensesProficient with lighting equipmentExpertise in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe BridgeExperience with drone photographyExperience with content management systemsAttention to detail and eye for aestheticsSelf-motivation and adherence to timely turnover of assetsExcellent communication skillsPREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
7 or more years of professional experienceProfessional drone licenseVideo production experienceExperience in editorial photographyProficiency in Adobe Lightroom and Adobe After EffectsANTICIPATED SALARY RANGE: $65,000 to $85,000, commensurate with experience.
