KTXL is looking for a photographer who can identify and capture stories in the fast-paced television news environment. You will be asked to gather stories teamed up with reporters and also on your own. We strive for National Press Photographer Association principal storytelling. You will be asked to identify stories, chase breaking news, troubleshoot on the fly, work well as a team, and push the boundaries of video production innovation.REQUIREMENTSProficiency with electronic news gathering cameras, preferably SONY/JVCGeneral ENG operation, maintenance, and safetySatellite Truck/ENG Truck safety trainingLIVE U or similar mobile data based transmission
 QUALIFICATIONSDegree in television production, journalism, or communications desiredMinimum 2 years experience as television news photojournalist/video journalistExperience operating live microwave truckExperience operating satellite truck desiredExperience operating drone/UAS part 107 desiredExperience with LiveU or similar data based transmission
 LIVE U or similar mobile data based transmission
 RESPONSIBILITIESShoot video and gather news stories, either teamed up with a reporter or working on your ownEdit packages and VOSOTs in the field and at the stationOperate live cameras in the newsroom, studio, or remote locationsHave extensive knowledge of professional lighting, audio, video, cable maintenance, etc.Gather factual information to support news storiesMaintain camera gear, light kits, vehicles, computers, edit systems, etc.Additional duties as necessary
 

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Working knowledge of editorial standardsMust demonstrate solid news judgmentNon-linear editing skills. FCPX or Adobe experience preferredExperience with MacBook Pro desiredMust be able to work well under deadline pressureAbility and willingness to write stories as neededBe able to tell stories with both video and soundMust be creative with strong editing skillsMust have attention to detail with great accuracyMust have (or be able to acquire) a valid California driver’s licenseNews is 24/7.  We need video journalists who can work any shiftWillingness to travel with little to no notice and work overtime

Must be a team player and work well with othersReports directly to Chief Photographer and takes direction on assignments from news managers and assignment editorsRepresent the station to the community in a professional mannerContribute story ideas at daily editorial meetingRelay information from the field back to station promptly and clearly
