Summary You will serve as a PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN in the ENVIRONMENTAL DIVISION of NAVAL FACILITIES ENG COMMAND HAWAII. Responsibilities You will assist the Environmental Protection Specialist (EPS) in sampling project planning, tracking projects to completion by monitoring status, funding availability and balance. You will help the EPS with sample preparation and gathering site reconnaissance information, monitoring sample equipment and supply inventory, helping to maintaining field sampling equipment and vehicles. You will properly transport, or ship samples, turns them in to environmental laboratories, tracks samples analysis through completion, prepares sample reports and documentation for customers. You will assist EPS in environmental sampling which include asbestos, paint chips, PCB, hazardous waste, industrial waste, drinking water, wastewater, storm water, monitoring wells, injection wells, fresh and ocean waters, and soils. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Ability to communicate orally and in writing. 2) Basic knowledge of chemistry and working with PH meters. 3) Knowledge to identify and evaluate environmental problems. 4) Basic knowledge of hazardous materials. GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Basic knowledge of hazardous waste concepts, principles, and practices applicable to the independent performance of collection, handling, storage and disposal operations. 2) Knowledge required to identify and evaluate environmental problems and hazards found at shops of various Naval activities. 3) Knowledge of basic chemistry required to identify properties and hazardous characteristics of chemical elements and compounds and to interpret and consolidate findings of sample waste analysis. 4) Knowledge of and skill in working with operating equipment such as pH meters and chemical analysis.
