General Summary:  An exempt position.  A licensed physical therapist under the Texas State establishing a patient’s prior limitations in their overall physical function.  Examine, evaluate, diagnose, develop treatment plans and provide prognoses for patients on an individual basis.  Physical therapist works to restore function, improve mobility and decrease pain with the goal of re-establishing a patient’s prior functional level.  Must be ok with covering at the Irving clinic when needed. 


Essential Job Responsibilities:

Assesses patients and develops treatment plans in collaboration with physicians and other clinicians.Compile rehabilitation strategies to involve specific exercises to stretch and strengthen muscles as well as to improve posture, balance and endurance.Document progress, re-evaluate physical findings and modify treatment strategies as appropriate.Work as a team with a variety of other professionals, including physicians to set a goal of reaching maximal patient functional independence.Assists in restoring, maintaining, and promoting overall fitness and health.Tests and measures patients’ strength, range of motion, balance and coordination, posture, muscle performance, respiration, and motor function.Record prognosis, treatment, response, and progress in patient’s chart.Identify and document goals, anticipated progress, and plans for re-evaluation.Administer manual exercises, massage, or traction to help relieve pain, increase patient strength, or decrease or prevent deformity or crippling.Evaluate effects of treatment at various stages and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefit.Test and measure patient’s strength, motor development and function, sensory perception, functional capacity, or respiratory or circulatory efficiency and record data.May use electrical stimulation, hot packs, cold compresses, ultrasound, and other PT interventions to relieve pain and reduce swelling.Instruct patient and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home.Teaches patients how to use assistive and adaptive devices such as crutches, prostheses, and wheelchairs.Provide educational information about physical therapy or physical therapists, injury prevention, ergonomics, or ways to promote health.Evaluate, fit or adjust prosthetic or orthotic devices or recommend modification to orthotist.Supervise tech or physical therapy assistants that may be assisting.May be required to attend monthly/annual staff or facility meetings.It is an essential function of this job to be kind, respectful and thoughtful to others while you are performing the duties that make up this job.  


Requirements

 

Education: Bachelor's degree in physical therapy from accredited program; successful completion of clinical internship. Master's degree in physical therapy preferred.  

Experience: Minimum two years of experience as a physical therapist, preferably in clinic setting. 

Other Requirements: Current state physical therapist license. Current CPR certificate. Any required CEU’s for license renewal
