PHYSICAL THERAPIST

JOB SUMMARY

To carry out an individualized program of physical therapy including assessment, treatment, planning, implementation, education, and communication to maximize the patient's progress toward achieving functional goals. To maintain a positive working relationship with other health professionals and ancillary staff.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education.

Minimum Work Experience Minimum one year experience as a physical therapist in a supervised setting within the last three years preferred.

Required Licenses Physical Therapist
Current Physical Therapist license to practice in the state.

The necessary knowledge and skills to care for the physical and developmental needs of the population age groups that will be receiving services.

Ability to remain calm in emergency or crisis situations.

Extensive standing and walking.

Lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring patients.

Frequent reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.

Complies with organizational and regulatory policies for handling confidential patient information.

Adheres to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and TJC standards and/or standards from other accrediting bodies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provides direct patient care, evaluates functional needs and outcomes, consults with other specialists as needed.

Reviews patient's functional needs and adjusts care plan as indicated to ensure optimal patient outcome.

Designs and implements a plan of care for the patient based on a thorough assessment of potential development and incorporates participation by significant others whenever it seems appropriate.

Conducts therapy practice within defined standards of care.

Directs the assistance of support staff in order to achieve the patient's functional goals.

Communicates effectively with other professional and support staff in order to achieve positive patient outcomes.

Practices established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.

Documents evaluations, treatment goals, and plans. Regularly updates documentation and maintains all required prescriptions and signatures.

Enhances professional growth and development of self and others through participation in educational programs, in-service meetings, and workshops. Keeps up to date on current professional literature.

Provides direction and leadership to staff and acts as a resource to promote physical therapy within the community.
