Summary:

The Rehab Services Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) provides physical therapy treatment services under the direction and supervision of a physical therapist. PTAs shall make sound decisions in collaboration with the physical therapist and within the boundaries established by laws and regulations governing physical therapy practice. Treatment by the PTA is delivered after the patient has been evaluated by a licensed physical therapist and after the physical therapist has established treatment goals and a treatment plan. The PTA is responsible for carrying out the treatment plan and providing patient and family education as appropriate. The PTA will regularly communicate with the Physical Therapist on the progress of the patient and any changes in patient status. The PTA will use evidence-based practice when recommending and executing treatments and will supervise the education of PTA students when appropriate.

 

Experience/Education Requirements:

Must be a graduate of an accredited college or university with an Associate's degree in Physical Therapy Assistant.

License or Certification Requirements:

Must hold current active or temporary licensure as a physical therapist assistant in the State of Illinois or ATT letter (authorization to test) issued by Continental Testing or the State of Illinois in the instance of a recent graduate.

 

 

Responsibilities:
Actively participates in designated marketing program (inpatient or outpatient).Communicates effectively (verbal and written) with patients, physicians, referral sources, family and other staff members, including documentation in the chart essential conversations with providers.Demonstrates ongoing efforts to enhance clinical skills by combining education and clinical experience in the growth and development of new programs or services.Attends educational events and shares knowledge with others.Functions as a responsible team member to ensure appropriate scheduling of patients and distribution of workload.Implements appropriate treatment programs based on results of evaluation of physical therapist.Maintains timely and accurate documentation that meets all compliance standards and contains personalized patient education information.Meets the following productivity percentage on Outpatient, Rehab, and Acute: less than or equal to 79.99 (NI), 80-81.99 (ME), 82-83.99 (M&SE), greater than 84 (CE).Participates in community and department activities that promote rehabilitation and wellness.Participates in departmental continuing education program and the department quality improvement program and ensures self and team compliance with dashboard and quality indicators.Participates in Quality Improvement efforts, e.g, Journal Club, inservices, Magnet, chart auditing, etc.Provides appropriate education for patients and familiesRegularly communicates changes to the plan of care and objective findings with the Physical TherapistSafely operates any equipment involved in patient careServes as clinical instructor for PTA students.
