Summary :The Physical Therapist Assistant works under the general supervision of a licensed physical therapist and is responsible for providing safe, quality clinical care within ThedaCare. Provides evidence-based activities to support patient progression based on the established plan of care.

Job Description:

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Demonstrates age-specific competency in the treatment of patients with medical, functional, psychosocial, motor, and/or orthopedic/sports related impairment, functional limitation, and/or disability to obtain their maximum level of function.

Collaborates and effectively communicates with supervising physical therapists regarding patient status, treatment response, goal status, and plan of care according to department, state, and American Physical Therapy Association standards and guidelines to provide best practice and continuity of care.

Provides patient-centered care and education by working in partnership with caregivers and patients to encourage and empower their active participation in the care plan.

Performs interventions and utilizes modalities as delineated in the physical therapy plan of care and assesses response to interventions.

Completes accurate and timely documentation of services in accordance with professional and compliance standards to ensure accurate billing and coding to maximize reimbursement and compliance.

Demonstrates responsible actions and initiative to positively impact patient access to care, and contributes to the department’s financial performance.

Provides education and mentoring for students, interns, residents, observers, volunteers, and/or new team members to support their development.

Develops and/or implements clinical and community-based activities that improve or expand physical therapy services within the department and/or ThedaCare to benefit the health and wellness of the communities served.

Promotes successful relationships with referral sources and within the community to enhance strategic growth and gain market share.

Proactively promotes putting the patient and family first through facilitating positive patient experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate’s degree from an accredited physical therapist assistant program

Licensed to practice as a Physical Therapist Assistant in the state of Wisconsin • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance

Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Occasional exposure to sharp objects and instruments

Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock

Occasional high noise level in work environment

Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents

Occasional contact with aggressive and or combative patients

Occasional exposure to heat sources such as hot water for splinting or heat gun
