**Position Highlights**
**Summary**
+ The Physical Therapist administers physical therapy treatments on in-patients, outpatients, long term care residents, swing bed patients and cardiac and pulmonary rehab patients in accordance with facility policies and accepted standards of practice for physical therapy to assist in the rehabilitation and restoration of body functions after illness and/or injury and all other duties as assigned.
**General Hours of Work**
+ Monday through Friday (call rotation)
**Education and/or Experience**
+ Graduate from an accredited college program for physical therapy. Bi-lingual experience preferred but not required.
**Certificate, Licenses, Registrations**
+ Licensed by the State of Iowa as a Physical Therapist. Must obtain CPR certification within 3 months of hire date. This position requires a valid driver’s license and must carry their own automobile liability insurance.
**Essential Functions**
+ Assessment of the patient's condition and the development of appropriate therapeutic programs to assist in the patient's recovery. This is done through reviewing and assessing the patient's medical records, performing various test and measurements such as range of motion and manual muscle tests, gait and functional analysis tests and by reviewing the physician's referral and administering Physical Therapy procedures per physicians’ orders.
+ Plans and prepares a treatment program based on the evaluation of all available data and proceeds with administering the treatment plan to the patient, under the direction of the physician administering the plan of care to the patient.
+ Performs or monitors the application of treatments involving the use of physical agents such as heat, water and electricity, using equipment such as whirlpool baths, electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, job compression and pain units, also the administration of traction, massage treatments, and orthotics.
+ Timely and appropriate documentation. This includes assessment findings, progress notes, treatment notes, re-assessments, and discharge summaries.
+ Communicates effectively with physicians, patients, patient's family, and facility staff. Communication is essential between the therapist and the referring physicians, the nursing staff, PT dept. staff, ambulatory care staff, home health agency staff, maintenance, housekeeping and other ancillary departments.
+ Assists in the supervision of Physical Therapist Assistants. This includes giving direction regarding patient preparation, treatment plan and termination and restorative care treatment programs. Assists with scheduling of patients to insure sufficient time is allowed for treatment.
+ Participates in various educational related activities to maintain a current knowledge of physical therapy and conducts in-service training to PT dept. staff and facility staff.
+ Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
