PHYSICAL THERAPY ASSISTANT (PTA) – PHYSICAL THERAPYNorthridge Hospital Medical Center a Dignity Health memberThe primary role of the PTA is to provide quality patient care and Physical Therapy treatments, as planned and directed by a registered Physical Therapist. Responsibilities include patient treatment and documentation of care. The PTAII reports verbally and in writing on patient's response to treatment. PTAII's are assigned patients ranging in age from pediatric to geriatrics. Assignments are dependent on the specific experience, training and demonstrated competence of the assistant and the needs of the patients. The PTA is expected to develop their clinical skills with ultimate responsibility for assuming clinical competency.
Responsibilities
Administers Physical Therapy treatments or portions thereof, as planned and directed by a registered Physical Therapist, to a patient population with varied diagnoses. Age range treated includes pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Staff will be assigned only age ranges for which they meet education, experience and training.Assists the Physical Therapist in the performance of complex tests and treatment procedures.Follows established procedures in the use of physical treatment modalities, therapeutic exercise and the use of adaptive equipment, utilizing evidenced based practice as appropriate.Provides patient/family/Care Partner/caregiver education, initiating as soon as feasible after admission. Works to ensure patient/family/Care Partner/caregiver transfer of knowledge using a variety of techniques (i.e. teach back, demonstration, video, written handouts).Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
A minimum of 2 yrs experience as a practicing PTA, including demonstrated teaching responsibilities, and evidence of continued education required.Current State of California licensure required.Current AHA BLS and Fire Safety cards required.
