What will I be doing in this role?
The Physical Therapy Assistant is responsible for treating patients with a high level of medical complexity/acuity using therapy modalities and procedures according to the prescription of the physician and the treatment plan established by the Physical Therapist. May report in team and/or patient family conference. Assists in growth and cohesiveness to ensure high quality patient care. Assists in the education and/or training of students. Provides patient care while maintain safety of the environment, using appropriate communication with sensitivity to the special patient populations, including patients with diverse cultural backgrounds, age, developmental issues, and physical disabilities.
Department-Specific Duties and Responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to:
Applies clinical skill and expertise in a specific population and/or speciality area to provide clinical care, and good decision making for patients with a high standard of medical complexity/acuity.Treats patients using therapy modalities and procedures according to the prescription of the physicians, and the treatment established by the Physical Therapist.Provides patient education appropriate for patient population.Provides individualized, patient-centered care with respect to personal, cultural, spiritual beliefs and preferences; age-related cognitive and psychosocial needs; social support needs; gender, sexual orientation, and economic background.Completes all required documentation in an accurate and thorough manner within the expected timeframes.Identifies and facilitates patient discharge needs including documentation, communication with care team, and recommendation for follow-up services in conjunction with Physical Therapist.Identifies safety concerns regarding patient population and institutes appropriate measures to provide a safe environment, including protection of self and others. Reviews identified risks and benefits of therapy and obtains consent from patient and/or caregiver.Contributes ideas and suggestions to continuously improve processes, procedures, methods, and productivity and uses quality principles for continuous performance improvement.Participates in activities that promote professional identity within the clinical environment, the Cedars-Sinai environment, and the community at large.Participates in professional development through clinical education, formal mentoring programs, further development of clinical and professional competencies, involvement in research and scholarly work.Servers as a clinical instructor for at least one full-time student or mentor for staff in accordance with specific discipline, regulatory and professional context.Leads or facilitates at least one in-service or educational session.Participates in continuous learning and professional development and documents evidence.Collaborates to problem solve and make decisions to achieve desired outcomes.Establishes effective working relationships with cross-functional team(s).Shares knowledge, time, and expertise to assist other members of the team.Ensures practices and procedures are inclusive of interpersonal and cultural diversity.Cultivates and maintains strong customer relationships and rapport with partners and/or client groups.Qualifications
Requirements:
Assoc. Degree/College Diploma – Completion of formal education / training from an accredited institution leading to or required for a Physical Therapy Assistant license is required.
Two (2) years of Physical Therapy Assistant experience or similar practice setting is required.
One (1) year of prior experience as a clinical instructor is preferred.

Solid understanding of subject matter domain areas in clinical quality, patient safety, regulatory and reimbursement context.Ability to deliver safe, appropriate, ethical, and evidence-based care in an effective, efficient, and professional manner; incorporates feedback, self-reflection, sound clinical reasoning and decision-making to continuously improve quality of care and operational processes.Good decision-making/prioritization skills, clinical reasoning, and judgment in managing patients.Standard digital literacy, use of electronic health record, and office skills. Working knowledge of Windows or comparable system (specifically including keyboard and mouse skills). As applicable to individual job duties and expectations, employee must additionally possess a solid understanding of word processing, spreadsheet, presentation development, e-mail, browser, and online reporting.Able to read, write, speak, and understand English.Ability to meet yearly average of established efficiency standard for the position.Demonstrates knowledge of current reimbursement issues.Licenses and Certifications:
California State Physical Therapist Assistant License (PTA) is required upon hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) is required upon hire.
