General Surgery Medical Director Qualifications and Responsibility 

Qualifications: 

Board Certified and practicing General Surgeon   Provide general surgery care to patients and participate in unassigned call   Have ACLS and ATLS certification and be in good standing on a Medical Staff  Firm commitment to High Reliability and patient safety  Demonstrated strong collaborative and collegial leadership style with other medical specialties, nursing, and administration. 

Responsibilities: 

Provide overall professional direction and oversight of clinical services delivered in General Surgery and its related specialties.  Provide direct support and participate in initiatives to improve patient and staff satisfaction.  Work cooperatively and collegially to advise and consult with Medical Staff members and administration regarding concerns related to General Surgery or its related specialties.   Demonstrate and support a commitment to High Reliability to achieve zero harm by leading departmental performance improvement and quality assurance, and implementation of clinical care pathways.  Review and approve clinical practice policies and procedures and guidelines for general surgery as required by CaroMont Health Medical Staff or applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.  Help direct education, training, maintenance of and monitoring competencies for physicians, advanced practice providers and students.  Direct participation in the Surgery Service Line and other Committees as deemed appropriate and, advise and assist CaroMont Health in such other medico-administrative duties as is reasonable.  Respond to and help manage care-related issues.  Provide oversight of General Surgery Credentialing, Privileging and Peer Review.  Direct involvement in Surgery Strategic planning and hiring of providers.  Collaboration with CMG operational management to optimize efficiency, patient experience and quality in the ambulatory clinics. Support Surgery Service Line growth initiatives and develop high value relationships with referring community providers in current and future markets.  Help adjudicate CSA issues related to clinical care and professionalism according to CaroMont Health policies, Bylaws and Code of Conduct.  Oversee provider call schedules for the group and help resolve call related concerns.  Partner and coordinate with CMG practice leadership and staff to improve daily operations and resolve practice related concerns.  Support the Mission and Vision of CaroMont Health  Responsibility for the oversight of the Trauma Medical Director, ICU Medical Director, and other General Surgery related leadership positions.  Reports to the Surgery Service Line leadership team
