For Paletta Acquisition Only Overview: Under the direction of a licensed physician in the state of practice, may provide professional care to patients. The physician delegates the authority to perform a medical screening examination, deliver health care services and treatments, and dispense and prescribe drugs in the scope of practice in emergency medicine. The scope of the physician assistant is defined within the collaborative practice agreement. Job Description Responsibilities: Safety/Risk Management: a. Acknowledges and maintains the right to privacy and confidentiality. b. Respects the hospital's and guests' property. Coordination of Services: a. Accurately documents patient progress and plan of care including interpreting assessments. b. Develops and implements with the individual/ family a plan of care to promote, maintain and restore health. c. Collaborates with other health care professionals in meeting individual needs and in providing client advocacy. d. Records all pertinent data about the client including the history and physical exam, problems identified, interventions provided, results of care, and plans for follow-up or referral. e. Coordinates the services required to meet individual and family needs for healthcare. Complex Aspects of the Job: a. Analyzes the data collected to determine health status. b. Evaluates the client's response to the health care provided and the effectiveness of the care with the individual and his/her family. c. Refers individuals and families to other healthcare professionals as appropriate. d. Educates the client population in illness, health promotion and health maintenance. e. Prescribes appropriately, in concert with the physician. f. Studies trends and developments in health care practice. Maintains up-to-date education and training. g. Encourages and proposes new methods and techniques on improved patient care. h. Maintains knowledge of professional literature, research methods, medical diseases and human behavior. Primary Aspects: a. Elicits a comprehensive health history, including an evaluation of the individual's development, maturation, coping ability, activities of daily living, psychological function, and emotional and social well-being. b. Performs a complete physical examination. c. Orders and/or performs pertinent diagnostic tests. d. Uses screening tools and techniques and selected tests and measurements to collect additional data. e. Formulates a problem list. f. Modifies the plan and intervention as needed. Communication Management: a. Communicates appropriate information about diagnosis, plan of management and process to physicians and other members of the health care team. b. Participates in the formalized teaching program and shares clinical expertise with physicians, medical students and other health professionals. Technology: a. Demonstrates competence and understanding of hospital computer system. b. Performs technical skills relative to scope of practice. c. Demonstrates proficient ability in retrieving patient information/resources utilizing computer software/Internet.Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values and Mercy Service Standards. Qualifications: Education: Graduate from a medical education program accredited by the Commission in Accreditation of Allied Health Professionals.Licensure: Licensed in the applicable State of practice as a physician assistant required.Experience:Certifications: Certification by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants. Current collaborative practice agreement with appropriate physicians.Other:Preferred Education: Minimum of two years recent clinical experience in an Emergency Department preferred
