Under the supervision of the attending physician works collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team to care for patients in the inpatient and outpatient setting. Addresses both acute and chronic issues in managing disease and treatment-related complications. Collects, documents and analyzes patient data; collaborates in the development and implementation of treatment plans; coordinates patient care with ancillary clinical services; makes appropriate referrals to consulting medical staff; provides follow-up to referring physicians; may orient or precept students and new staff. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed to meet the goals and objectives of the institution. Job Responsibilities: Performs patient care duties according to established standards, general and service-specific scopes of care, policies and procedures, and patient specific protocols. Annually demonstrates performance competency in each of the following: Performs physical examination and obtains medical and social histories. Orders appropriate diagnostic studies and assists in the interpretation of patient data to accurately diagnose disease status. Assists in the identification of appropriate medical treatment, whether protocol or non-protocol. Participates in the implementation of appropriate medical treatment. May write orders as permitted by the Clinical Staff Rules and Regulations following approval by the attending physician and subject to co-signature. Monitors and evaluates patient response to medical treatment. Facilitates appropriate patient referrals and provides patient and family support. Provides patient follow-up to other health care providers, including referring physicians. Performs service-specific diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as prescribed by treatment guidelines and/or when change in clinical status indicates such procedures. Collects and records data as required. Utilizes effective verbal and written communication skills to obtain and document patient information in the medical record or other records as required. Monitors treatment guideline/clinical research flow sheets and other pertinent written records. Assists in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of historical patient data requiring collaboration for development of treatment protocols or clinical research flow sheets Assists in research by careful implementation of, and adherence to treatment protocols. Accurately records information according to medical and research requirements. Assists with the education of patients and families. Assesses the learning needs and abilities of patient and families to facilitate their development of self care. Assists in the orientation of new employees and education of all students present and other clinical staff. Orients and precepts NP/PA students, medical residents, nursing visitors and medical and nursing fellows in the clinical areas. Participates in ongoing education for other clinical staff. Maintains current knowledge as related to the profession and job responsibilities by regularly attending conferences and meetings at the hospital and off-site. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served on the assigned unit. Demonstrates the knowledge of growth and development for all ages served. Serves patients ages birth to 30 years. Participates in the detection, reporting and improvement of systems to prevent patient care incidents and improve patient safety and quality. Maintains regular and predictable attendance. Performs other related duties as assigned in order to meet the goals of the department and institution. Minimum Education and/or Training: Graduate of a Physician Assistant Program accredited by the Accreditation and Review Commission on Physician Assistant Education (ARC-PA) BLS/PALS/ACLS Minimum Experience:. Pediatric, family practice, internal medicine or hematology/oncology experience preferred Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by Law: (LC:PA-TN) Licensed by the state of TN Board of Medical Examiners to practice as a physician assistant. (LC:NCCPA-CERT) Certified by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).(LC: SUPMD) Supervising Physician verified by St. Jude Managed Care Department. (LC:DEA) DEA certified by U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration within 6 months of employment. Compensation In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
