**Summary**
This position is responsible for the performance of increasingly independent and complex tasks of a routine and standardized nature. Provides direct diagnostic and therapeutic patient care under Physician supervision. Impacts quality of patient care and patient outcomes throughout the disease process.
**Key Functions**
1. Provides assessment, triage and therapeutic management of patient/family needs throughout the disease process as an integral part of an interdisciplinary team.
2. Acts under the authority and supervision of the attending physician and in accordance with regulations, hospital policy, protocols and clinical pathways.
3. Obtains medical histories, performs physical examinations, reviews/orders diagnostic tests and radiographic results, formulates and manages patient treatment plans and outcomes.
4. Performs procedures, prescribes treatment and signs prescriptions in accordance with institution and state requirements.
5. Screens physician calls to educate patient/family on care and resources.
6. Makes rounds with interdisciplinary team.
7. Collaborates in research projects, formulates protocols and applies research to practice
EDUCATION: Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), except for Physician Assistants who graduated from a PA program prior to 2013. All of the following: PA certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants.
LICENSURE: Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners. MAY BE REQUIRED: Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas. Must meet the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) , ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) if working in one of following department: Pediatrics - Patient Care (113100).
