Physician Assistant Surgical Specialist/ Bariatrics

Job Title: Physician Assistant Bariatrics and General Surgery Department: Bariatric Surgery Position Summary: Performs patient care both in the outpatient and inpatient settings as part of the bariatric and general surgery services. Duties include managing a clinic schedule for bariatric patients, performing physical exams, interpreting lab results, and prescribing and managing medication for both general surgery and bariatric patients. Additionally, the APP will assist in the OR with general surgery and bariatric cases (open, laparoscopic and robotic). Candidate will actively be involved in a well-supported team of surgeons and other APP’s and will help to manage patients in house. Essential Duties: • Able to perform and document consults, admission history and physicals, progress notes and discharge documentation on all inpatients • Able to perform and document clinical visits for consultations, pre and post op visits, and other follow up visits • Interprets lab results, imaging and other diagnostic tests to form an appropriate treatment plan in conjunction with the physician • First and second assists surgeons in the OR, for general surgery and bariatric cases. Relevant requirements: • Licensed, Registered or Certified in the State of Maine or able to obtain • Graduate of accredited physician assistant program; NCCPA certified or graduate of an accredited nurse practitioner program; AANPCB certified • Must complete 100 hours of CME every two (2) years and take the recertification exam every six (10) years. • 2 years’ experience as an APP preferred but not required • Previous surgical experience preferred, particularly with general, bariatric and robotic surgery • BLS and ACLS certified Pertinent information: • Four 10 hour shifts per week with rotating weekends and holidays • 28 days of sick/vacation time • 5 CME days and $3,000 towards CME per year • Reimbursement for 1 membership per year If you are passionate about making a difference and are looking for your next great career opportunity, we look forward to reviewing your application!
