Physician - Chief Cardiovascular Surgeon

Job Summary

TidalHealth Peninsula Regional, located in Salisbury, MD, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Cardiovascular Surgeon to lead our cardiovascular surgery department. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing all surgical procedures related to the heart and vascular system, ensuring the highest standards of patient care, and driving innovation in cardiovascular treatments. This leadership role requires a combination of clinical excellence, administrative expertise, and a commitment to advancing the field of cardiovascular surgery.

 

Practice Summary

High volume team oriented cardiac surgery practice: 70% Cardiac Surgery, 30% General Thoracic Three Surgeons with combined 50 years' experience Team is supported by eight APPs Advanced cardiothoracic and vascular surgical technology with minimally-invasive DaVinci XI Robotic Thoracic procedures, Surgical Treatment of Atrial Fibrillation, Surgeon lead TAVR and Mitra-Clip programs, and many others. Monday-Friday with 4 OR days (per surgeon) and with typically five to ten cases per week. Two dedicated cardiothoracic operating rooms supported by a dedicated OR team and cardiac trained anesthesiologists. Clinic days with expectations of 12-15 patients per clinic week, including rotations in Multidisciplinary Thoracic Oncology and Heart Valve/TAVR Clinics. Call is every third night and every third weekend. Very strong PA support and the PA will be first call

 

Key Responsibilities

Surgical & Clinical Duties

Perform complex surgical procedures Oversee and participate in emergency and elective surgeries. Ensure compliance with the latest medical standards, protocols, and best practices. Lead multidisciplinary teams in patient care, including cardiologists, anesthesiologists, and surgical staff.

Leadership & Administration

Provide strategic direction and operational oversight for the cardiac surgery department. Develop and implement protocols to improve patient outcomes and surgical success rates. Supervise, mentor, and evaluate surgical staff, including surgeons, advanced practitioners, residents, and fellows. Collaborate with hospital administration on budgeting, resource allocation, and departmental growth.

Research & Innovation

Lead and contribute to research initiatives in cardiovascular surgery. Stay updated on the latest surgical advancements and integrate new technologies into practice.

Quality & Compliance

Ensure compliance with hospital policies, national healthcare regulations, and accreditation requirements. Monitor and improve key performance indicators, such as surgical success rates and patient recovery times. Foster a culture of continuous improvement in patient safety and surgical techniques

 

Qualifications & Requirements

MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school. Board Certification in Cardiothoracic or Cardiovascular Surgery. Minimum 10+ years of experience in cardiovascular surgery, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Strong background in performing complex and high-risk cardiovascular procedures. Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills. Commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, and research. Preferred Qualifications Experience in robotic and minimally invasive cardiac surgery. Proven ability to develop and manage a high-volume surgical practice

 

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation range for this position: $845,245 - $1,075,874 Comprehensive healthcare, dental, and vision insurance. Retirement plans, CME allowances, and malpractice insurance.
