The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).
JOB SUMMARY:
Works under the direction of the Associate Medical Director.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Medical Director):
Contributes to the successful operations of UTMB Correctional Managed Care Organization. Performs complete medical histories and physical examinations; forms clinical impressions based upon findings; orders diagnostic tests, interprets results of laboratory tests and radiologic examinations, prescribes medications, and render treatments appropriate to clinical impressions. Inspects, completes, and analyzes medical records; assigns, reviews, and updates medical classifications; completes admission notes, and discharge summaries and makes rounds on patients admitted to infirmaries or regional medical facilities. Refers patients to specialists for consultations, evaluations, and treatments. Serves in rotation with other physicians to provide after-hours and weekend patient care. Directly supervises all physicians and physician assistants. Oversees and manages all operations of the unit's medical department, assuring compliance with all applicable standards, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and court orders. Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure established for department. Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Digital Medical Services/Telemedicine):
Complies with and supports medical policies and procedures. Ensures medical decisions are rendered fairly and in good faith to clients. Researches and recommends institutional policies and procedures that will enable UTMB CMC to maximize Digital Medical Services/Telemedicine. Contributes to the development of health-related policies and standards that ensure the daily operations of Digital Medical Services/Telemedicine and Electronic Utilization Review. Ensures that all review determinations follow medical protocols, rules of conduct, and comply with applicable practice guidelines. Actively participates in monitoring client health status, utilization standards, policies and procedures, patient outcome measures, quality and client satisfaction. Monitors client health status, utilization standards, policies and procedures, and patient outcome measures. Develops strong relationship with colleagues and specialty physicians so that interaction is positive and a high quality of care is delivered to clients. Participates in Medical Quality Management, reviews quality issues, makes determinations and assists in the implementation of interventions to improve quality. WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work environment is located within the confine of a prison, jail or juvenile detention center. Security clearance is required; pre-employment drug testing is also required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Texas and ten (10) years of progressive management/leadership and patient care experience, practice experience in Telemedicine, Electronic Utilization Review, and Quality Improvement is desirable. Board Certification in any of the following fields: Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Emergency Medicine. Must hold current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) controlled substance registration.Salary is commensurate with years of relevant work experience.
