As Georgia’s public safety net, DBHDD operates six field offices and five hospitals throughout the state within three program areas: behavioral health, developmental disabilities and hospital services. The main office for DBHDD is in downtown Atlanta. Georgia Regional Hospital – Savannah (GRHS) operates 180 licensed, accredited inpatient beds for two major program areas: 1) adult mental health, 2) adult forensic services and offers inpatient adult mental health services, inpatient habilitation services and forensic program services to a catchment area of approximately 45 Georgia counties. Job Description Job Title: Physician - Board Eligible – Admissions - Hourly (Part-Time) - GRHS Pay Grade: MBE Job Summary: Under general supervision, provides comprehensive medical services by examining patients, diagnosing conditions, and providing treatments. Directs nurses, aides and others in the care and treatment of patients. Supervising staff including physician assistants and nurse practitioners Refers patients to medical specialists or other practitioners when necessary + Advises patients on health care including health promotion, disease, illness and accident prevention. + Coordinates work with nurses, social workers, rehabilitation therapists, pharmacists, psychologists and other health care providers. + Directs and coordinates activities of nurses, students, assistants, specialists, therapists, and other medical staff. + Examines patients and take their histories, order laboratory tests, X-rays and other diagnostic procedures and consult with other medical practitioners to evaluate patients’ physical and mental health. + Prescribes or administers treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury. + In the EMR system, completes all orders and documents all evaluations, notes treatment, and plans within prescribed time frames and according to established guidelines. + Consults with referring M.D. as needed. + Provides emergency medical care. + Other duties as assigned. Qualifications + Medical degree recognized by the Georgia Composite Medical Board (GCMB) AND licensure or license-eligible to practice medicine at a state institution or in the state of Georgia as provided by state law. Physician must be Board Eligible. + This position requires the successful candidate to have a license to practice medicine in the State of Georgia. FOR THIS TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT, STATE LAW REQUIRES A NATIONAL AND STATE BACKGROUND CHECK AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT. Preferred qualifications + Certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine or Family Medicine + Experience in treating persons with serious and persistent medical illnesses, and in providing care as leader and member of an interdisciplinary treatment team. + Experience working with consumers in adult mental health, addictive disease, and forensic psychiatry. NOTE: This hourly position’s work hours are Monday thru Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. (29 hours per week on average). The individual will be working with and supervising the most qualified and independent extenders. GRHS is contracted with a large teaching medical hospital which takes care of our patients is only 5 minutes away.
