Mercy Hospital - Springfield is recruiting a medical director emergency medicine physician! A minimum of 2-3 years leadership experience is preferred. We are a stable, hospital-employed group of approximately 40 emergency physicians. Mercy Springfield is one of the busiest and largest emergency departments in the Midwest with around 90,000 annual visits, level I trauma for both Missouri and Arkansas, and comprehensive, tertiary healthcare services for a three-hour radius and over 1.5M lives. This opportunity will be a 50/50 mix of administrative and clinical.
Key Responsibilities
• Collaborate with nursing staff, hospital leadership, and consulting services to drive excellence in clinical operations.
• Facilitate the execution of hospital and departmental quality initiatives, patient satisfaction measures, and operational goals.
• Lead, design, and implement strategies aimed at improving processes and optimizing care delivery within the ED.
• Foster a culture of collaboration and accountability among clinical staff and operational teams.
• Communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, ensuring alignment and shared objectives.
Mercy Hospital Springfield
• Springfield – 886-bed, level I, tertiary trauma, and catchment hospital for four states
o Approximately 90,000 annual ED visits
o 9-hour shifts - 7 for patient care and last 2 for clean-up means you go home on-time
o 14 physician shifts each day plus APP support
o 80-bed emergency department
o 11-bed pediatric emergency department plus separate 11-bed OB emergency department staff by women’s health
o Over 500 employed physicians across almost all medical specialties
o 24/7 in-house neurology/stroke, general and orthopedic trauma, anesthesiology, intensivists, hospitalists, and OB Hos
o ED ultrasound (Sonosite), MRI, and CT available all the time
o Approximately 2 patients per hour on average
