Position Summary / Career Interest:

The University of Kansas Health System, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Precision Prevention, is actively recruiting a full-time ABMG board certified or eligible Medical Geneticist, to join our expanding clinical and academic genetics program.  This program treats patients for advanced diagnosis and treatments at The University of Kansas Health System (TUKHS) in Kansas City, a 1054-bed academic and regional referral center and The University of Kansas Cancer Center, the only NCI-Comprehensive Cancer Center in the region. The compassionate and collaborative genetics team strives to create innovations in research and cultivate advances in medical genetics to ensure our patients benefit from the latest in genetic insights and personalized care strategies.  The medical geneticist will have the opportunity to establish an adult general genetics clinic for TUKHS.  The health system has patients with a wide range of genetic conditions who are seen across 200 medical specialties, providing resources and support to the top specialists in their field and affiliated hospitals.  This position will support the mission of delivering the highest quality of care, as well as satisfying teaching, research, and academic responsibilities. Academic rank commensurate with experience.  


About the Position:

The incoming medical geneticist will find a collaborative environment, engaging directly with Precision Prevention faculty, the genetic counseling manager, and the genetic counselors to integrate genetic testing and counseling across various specialties within the health system and develop adult genetics clinical services. This collaboration underscores our commitment to advancing precision medicine through comprehensive genetic services.  Integral to clinical services at TUKHS is the genetic counseling service line which has seven genetic counselors dedicated to clinical genetics, cancer genetics, as well as a newly developed cardiovascular genetics service line.

The Division of Precision Prevention has a focus on leveraging the latest advancements in genetic and genomic research to transform patient care, particularly through the personalized approach of precision medicine. The successful candidate will help lead initiatives that extend broader applications of whole genome sequencing, polygenic risk scores, pharmacogenomics and testing for genetic and genomic associations with chronic diseases into patient care. The division aspires to advance the forefront of personalized healthcare, improving outcomes through risk stratification and the meticulous customization of disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment plans.  

The Department of Internal Medicine has a thriving and rapidly expanding research portfolio that spans the entire spectrum of basic and clinical research from genes and molecules to translation of discoveries in the community. The candidate may have protected research effort, along with support for staffing, equipment, and laboratory space as appropriate, from the Department of Internal Medicine and Division of Precision Prevention.  We offer an attractive salary and excellent comprehensive benefits package, including relocation allowance.

  

Required Qualifications:  

MD/DO or equivalent

BC/BE in Medical Genetics 

Eligible for licensure in Kansas and Missouri

Preferred Qualifications:   

Completion of Internal Medicine residency program

Work Experience:  

Clinical experience in Medical Genetics

Job Duties:

Provide patient care in ambulatory clinic. Model best practices for diagnosis and treatment of illnesses and conditions. Complete appropriate documentation of patient encounters for medical follow-up and timely billing. 

Instruct medical students, genetic counseling students, residents, and fellows in clinical and classroom settings.   

Contribute to various scholarly and research activities of the Division of Precision Prevention. Research could include clinical trials or investigator-initiated studies.  

Participate in Division, Department, and School faculty activities as allowed by schedule constraints.
