Job Summary: The Physicist MS 1 performs routine periodic quality control and calibration procedures on radiation therapy treatment machines, Performs treatment planning and patient specific dosimetry. Participates in academic programs and provides support for other clinical physics activities Documents all procedures and results for quality assurance. These services may be provided for both the LLUMC and LLUCH hospitals. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: Master's Degree in Medical Physics, Physics, or other related Biomedical Sciences required. Completion of a residency in therapeutic medical physics from a CAMPEP (Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs) accredited program required.
Knowledge and Skills: Be able to create treatment plans for cancer patients using x-rays, protons, and brachytherapy techniques. Be able to perform periodic quality assurance and calibration procedures on radiation treatment machines, including proton therapy machines. Should be knowledgeable about the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or e-chart system. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Must have good interpersonal skills and be a team player. Ability to make quick and informed decisions, especially pertaining to patient treatments, and should be detail oriented.
Licensures and Certifications: Board eligible to be certified in therapeutic medical physics by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or equivalent board. Board Certification by the American Board of Radiology within 7 years of hire date as physicist MS1 required.
