The Pilot Plant Operator will be directly reporting to Production Manager and is primarily responsible for operation of the pilot plant, working in conjunction with the site’s Technical Team and R&I. As needs necessitate they will also support daily demands of the Production team, working with the Shift Leads to ensure demand is met. This may include, in addition to normal operations workload, assisting in operator training and development, as well as special projects as assigned by the Production Manager. The Pilot Plant Operator position will primarily work Monday – Friday day shift, but will work off-shift rotations and weekends on occasion to ensure the production team has appropriate staffing.

The primary job function will be to carry out all pilot plant operations, working closely with plant Engineers and R&I team, to both develop and follow SOP and batch sheets during scale up and optimization efforts. The position will require keeping detailed records during Scale-up, DOE, and Optimization studies. The position will be expected to support the implementation to industrial, scale any improvements identified in the pilot plant. Focus on housekeeping will be paramount, so before the end of the shift all areas are free of debris and trash, equipment is put away, and all containers are labeled. When time permits the position will support production operations as required by the Production Manager. Ensure all documentation (batch sheets, loading and unloading checklists, receiving paperwork, etc) are filled out completely and correctly. Understanding of all alarms and correct path forward given each alarm. Provide suggestions for process or equipment improvements. Always approach your job with the principle that all incidents are preventable. To that end you need to keep the following aspects in mind: Always perform your job in a sound HS&E manner to protect yourself and those around you. Risk assessment is a mind set, where you are always assessing hazards and thinking about means to avoid those hazards. Take a proactive approach to maintain excellence in all your assignments. Be aware of your state of mind (rushing, frustration, fatigue & complacency) that leads to distractions from the task on hand. Those distractions lead to errors resulting in unwanted incidents. Attend and complete all required training. Responsible for supporting the Shift Lead with HSE performance during Production operations on the shift including the continuous improvement in safety culture and accountability among operators. Responsible for supporting the execution of General Safe Work Permits within the shift and ensuring that all Syensqo Life Saving Rules are followed by operators, maintenance staff, and contractors within the Production area during the shift. Report all accidents, upset conditions, and near misses immediately, and aid in the investigation of these events. Responsible for supporting Shift Leads with investigation of day-to-day production issues, with escalation to Production Manager on an as-needed basis. Responsible to support operator training on Production related SOPs, batch sheets and associated documentation. Knows and fully understands the purpose of operational practices, health & safety regulations, OSHA requirements, and ISO9001 quality procedures, and works accordingly. Supporting plant management by promoting HSE initiatives and training. The position may be required to occasionally support the production team by covering shifts during extended vacations and absences.
