About You and This Role:

Dow Performance Monomers R&D has an exciting opportunity for a Pilot Plant Technologist located in Collegeville, PA. You will support laboratory projects including working shifts on a 24/7 attended pilot plant process. You will also provide technical support to Scientists, technologists, and technicians to contribute to the delivery of innovative process technologies for Dow’s Performance Monomers product line.

Responsibilities:

Works as part of a team in pilot plant (including 24 x7 operations) and laboratory settings supporting chemists and engineers in developing, screening and commercializing new products and process.Demonstrates proficient application of Life Critical Standards, operating plant discipline and sets role model in safety culture.Independently develops and implements experimental plans and acts responsible for complex laboratory/pilot plant tasks requiring complex approaches and procedures.Attentively and reliably monitors and manages a complex chemical process operation via computer control screens, including reactors and distillation columns, utilizing plant P&ID’s and SOP’s when required.Use mechanical know-how to build and maintain sections of the pilot plant, consisting of different types of reactors and/or distillation columns.Sampling, handling and disposing waste generated from laboratory or pilot operations.Uses trouble shooting skills to resolve process related deviations and problems and understands how the assigned duties relate to others in the team and how the team integrates with other related teams.Effectively executes shift acceptance at start of shift and shift turnover at end of shift.Trains other work group members and contractors on specific work processes, equipment, and machinery.Communicates effectively with supervisor, team members, management, and other personnel, and provides clear progress updates as needed.Committed to Business Principles and Policies concerning Environmental, Health, Safety, Security and Sustainable Development practices. Complies with all regulatory and corporate requirements in areas of responsibility.Completes safety actions in a timely fashion following all site and laboratory expectations.

Required Qualifications:

A minimum of a high school diploma/GED and ONE of the following: 4+ years of industry related experience, An Associate's Degree with a focus in science related courses, or 4+ years of military training/experience

Must have the ability to process and instrumentation diagram concepts, read and follow such diagrams and interpret, and follow without deviation, process operating instructions in list, mathematical, diagram, or prose form and deal with many abstract and concrete variables.Microsoft application expertise, to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required. Must have the ability to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 10 pounds while safely engage in physically demanding tasks.Must have the ability to work assigned shift hours, day or night, with effective ownership of the work duties and process areas.A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.  No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.


Preferred Qualifications

Experience in chemical process research and development or production support.Experience with design, building, and operation of continuous, laboratory scale, integrated chemical process pilot plants.Experience with handling glasswareExperience with handling tubing, fittings, and pumpsExperience in laboratory and pilot scale data acquisition and automation hardware and software.Experience in the operation of gas chromatographs (e.g., Agilent 7890).Experience with titrimetric methods of analysis (Karl Fischer, Acid-base Titration, etc.)Knowledge of engineering methods and concepts for common chemical process operations.Knowledge of (Meth)Acrylate monomer manufacturing technology.
