The Piping Takeoff Estimator role at Polk Mechanical is a core member of our pre-construction team; working with other Estimators and Virtual Design personnel to ensure that our projects are set to succeed from the start. Using their extensive experience and background knowledge, Piping Takeoff Estimators not only provide accurate material & manpower costs – but also use their expertise to complete and correct any imperfect engineering plans/blueprints (within the project’s mechanical/HVAC piping scope.) JOB CONDITIONS: + Typical Supervisor: reports to Senior & Chief Estimators + Work Environment & Location: In-Person (100%) – majority Office presence with occasional job-site visits. + Schedule: Due to the fast-paced and critical nature of Estimating Takeoffs, additional work hours or irregular scheduling may be required to ensure project completion. + Communicates often with: Internal Pre-Construction & Project Management teams, as well as External General Contractors & Engineering Firms. + Common Tools/Software Used: Bluebeam, Bluebeam Revu, FastEST Software (FastPIPE & FastDUCT), Microsoft Excel, PDF Editing Software. RESPONSIBILITIES: + Reviews project plans/specifications to gain complete understanding of project scope. + Identifies missing components, code compliance issues, or potential cross-trades conflicts with imperfect or incomplete drawings/data. + Uses expertise to correct and “fill-in-the-blanks” of imperfect and incomplete drawings/data. + Generates takeoff reports with revised drawings and verifies their accuracy. + Monitors all addenda, scope changes, and breakouts to ensure they are processed and incorporated in a timely manner. + Communicates and justifies project estimates in detail to internal and external parties. QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: + Education: High School Diploma or GED/Equivalent. + Experience: Minimum of 4+ Years of experience working in the Mechanical Construction Industry (Plumbing/Piping/HVAC – Tradesman, Installation, Supervision, or Superintendent, etc.) + Skill: Ability to thoroughly read, understand, and edit Plumbing, Piping, Architectural, Structural, and Civil Engineering blueprints/drawings. + Knowledge & Understanding of Piping Fixtures and Equipment Connections. + Knowledge & Understanding of basic cost parameters for Material & Manpower/Labor. + Knowledge & Understanding of local Mechanical/HVAC codes & ADA Standards. + Knowledge & Understanding of Mechanical/HVAC Piping Systems (knowing of what completes these systems and how they operate.) + Systems Knowledge: Chilled Water, Steam, Condensate, Natural Gas, Medical Gas, etc. + Computer Skills: ability to use Estimating Software, edit PDFs, Microsoft Excel competency, and electronic file management (storage/organization and import/export.) PREFERENCES: + Higher Education in Construction Management or Engineering related studies. + Prior Experience in Estimating or Pre-Construction roles. + Prior Experience in Supervisory or Superintendent roles within the Construction Industry.
