Tenure-track faculty are generally expected to teach three courses per semester, maintain an active research agenda, and actively participate in service activities. Courses may be face-to-face, hybrid, hyflex, or online at the undergraduate or graduate level. Faculty may also: advise students; engage in program assessment; help develop and promote CMU’s TSE course offerings; attend Literacy Area meetings; and strengthen partnerships on and off campus.
The position requires maintenance of scholarly research and publications, service to the university and PK-12 schools, and effective teaching and advising at the university level. Required Qualifications Doctorate in education with an emphasis in reading/literacy studies. ABD will be considered if it is clear the degree will be conferred by the time of appointment. Three years of successful teaching in PK-12 educational settings. Specialized knowledge in PK-12th literacy curricula, instruction, and assessment. This is required for teaching across undergraduate (educator preparation courses in PK to 12th grade preparation) and graduate literacy coursework (K-12 Reading Specialist endorsement). Ability to demonstrate one or more of the following specializations: early childhood/elementary literacy expertise, adolescent literacy expertise, and/or literacy intervention or assessment expertise. (Note, a continuum of PK-12th grade preparation and teaching experiences will be preferred due to programmatic needs). Effective written and oral communication skills. Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. Preferred Qualifications Ability to integrate instructional technology and address diverse student populations/needs into teaching and student learning. Successful experience teaching literacy in higher education.
