The Broward County Board of County Commissioners, Transportation Department is seeking qualified candidates for Planner in its Service & Strategic Planning Division.
The Planner (Service Planner) leads the preparation of transit service plans, near/long-term transit ridership projections, and monitors key transit performance indicators and transit service standards.  Duties for this position involve performing planning duties specifically related to the design and analysis of transit services. These analyses are used to create various reports for response to inquiries and complaints regarding route performance and design. General Description
Performs advanced professional planning work in the area of transit service activities and planning transit service operations.
Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Urban Planning, Geographic Information System (GIS), Geography or closely related field.

Executes, develops, and implements planning work related to urban planning, comprehensive planning, demographics, and Geographical Information System (GIS).
 
Receives, routes, and responds to plan review requests; responds to phone and e-mail inquiries related to comments provided; coordinates the review process; maintains databases and plan files; accepts plans on behalf of the agency.
 
Responds to co-worker, contractor, and citizen requests regarding plans, policies, standards, projects, and inspections.
 
Conducts review of land use changes, development proposals, and public works projects along transit corridors to assess impacts to transit services.
 
Assists in general management of section operations; creates and maintains GIS datasets; provides GIS products and analysis for decision making; collects, manipulates, and analyzes demographic data; provides assistance and information related to demographics to the general public and other governmental agencies.
 
Implements and administrates comprehensive planning functions in compliance with state statute requirements.
 
Reviews sources of information, current literature, and recent developments regarding urban planning and provide recommendations to project leaders.
 
Reviews and compiles raw and summary data from operational materials and sources, makes mathematical calculations.
 
Recommends reporting formats and procedures and prepares statistical reports summarizing the activities of the division/office.
 
Researches and stays abreast of current transit industry trends and developments.
 
Analyzes impact and evaluates current and proposed transit service based on ridership, passenger convenience, productivity, and budget.
 
Assists in providing statistical and reporting data for annual submission to the National Transit Database.
 
Responds to inquiries and complaints from internal and external customers related to transit service.
 
Coordinates, collects, and maintains relevant transit datasets.
 
Prepares analyses regarding route characteristics, ridership, and performance indicators.
 
Represents Transit Division on various internal and external committees and in public outreach including community meetings to discuss service-related information.
 
Maintains/Establishes working relationships with peer agencies and coordinates exchange of information when inquiries are made.
