Planning and Regulatory Intern
**Job Description:** Tri-State is an electric power utility providing electricity to rural electric cooperatives. We have a Planning & Regulatory Summer Intern opportunity for 2025. Students who have successfully completed two (2) to three (3) years of undergraduate study towards a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, Public Policy or related discipline from an accredited college or university are encouraged to apply. Seniors who will be graduating in December or are planning to attend graduate school in the Fall are also encouraged to apply. **This summer position offers students hands on opportunity to** learn about and contribute to electric generation planning and modeling and regulated electric utility proceedings preparations and participation. The intern will be working on technical and policy analyses to support Tri-State’s supply-side resource mix plans and regional electric market participation. **Responsibilities:** + Support resource planning engineers in preparing and analyzing complex electric utility data sets for long-term planning + Support regulatory analysts in monitoring and preparing written filings and analysis for regulated proceedings. + Gain experience in regulated resource planning and provide feedback to department leadership team on items learned during internship. + Monitor and summarize regional electricity market related developments, as directed. **Projects may include the following:** + Assist with preparing electric resource plan (ERP) documents, including Microsoft Excel datasets. + Assist with monitoring ERP and regulated rulemaking proceedings, including preparing related documentation using Microsoft Word. + Assist in preparation of documentation summarizing regional electric market activities, including preparing email communications using Microsoft Outlook. + Conduct analyses around large load potential such as data centers to assist in developing future strategy on planning for such large loads. + Assist with economic and/or dispatch modeling for demand response using existing models as a base. + Assist with ad-hoc analyses to determine internal or regulatory policy impacts on the business. + Participate in certain regional electric markets meetings, as directed. **Job Requirements:** + Excellent written and verbal communication skills. + Interest in utility operations and regulations, regional electric markets, and/or public policy. + Experience and moderate proficiency using Microsoft Office products. **Duration and Work Schedule** + The duration of the summer internship will be from about the end of May until the end of August. + The work schedule includes Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., forty hours per week.
