Plant Engineer Geismar LA
Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an opening for a PLANT ENGINEER to support its Hydrogen production facilities in the Louisiana East Gulf Up-River Area, with regional responsibilities spanning from Baton Rouge to Geismar, LA.
The Air Products Up-River Region plant operations consists of 7 Hydrogen and CO production facilities, with 3 Large Scale Steam Methane Reformers, 2 Off-Gas Hydrogen processing plants a Carbon Monoxide cold box and bulk carbon monoxide loading. Various manufacturing technologies are utilized across these production facilities, including Cryogenic Distillation, and PSA/TSA purification. The hydrogen product from these facilities is delivered to various on-site petrochemical and refinery customers, in addition to other customers that are situated along the extensive AP Gulf Coast Hydrogen Pipeline System.
The Plant Engineer will have broad engineering responsibilities supporting the Up-River Site Supervisors and Area Manager. This role will require the candidate to gain an understanding of all aspects of the sites’ operational responsibilities. The Plant Engineer will work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Process Engineering, Project Teams, and the Business Area to drive safety, productivity, efficiency, and reliability performance of the various plants within the region. The position is a good combination of field and office work. This includes work involving data analysis and tracking, systems integration, and reviews of both Air Products and external engineering standards. The hands-on work includes large rotating machinery, unit operations and control systems.

Seasoned leadership and experience in engineering-based roles with a strong preference toward individuals that desire to progress into operations leadership roles. A proven track record in driving continuous improvement through analytical reviews of complex systems. Knowledge of RCA and FMEA with previous usage of these methodologies is a plus.Strong plant operating experience in similar plants or operations of similar complexity. A track record of success on Safety, Environmental, Quality and Employee engagement. A strong commitment to employee involvement, team building and diversity Strong communication and organizational skills. A self-starter with proven leadership abilities.This role is a safety sensitive position.Key Job Responsibilities:
Serve as primary interface for selective, new plant projects, participate with scope development. Conduct preliminary cost/benefit analysis. Participate with annual site work instruction assessments/reviews. Assist Environmental Engineering in permit compliance efforts. Assist plant leadership as co-owner of OPHR ‘evergreen’ copy. TAR eMOC technical support, assist eMOC coordinators and eMOC Coordinator support.Participate with technical reviews for CSS/MI extensions Support Month End Close process. Assist plant leadership with P&ID Integrity/Maintenance, Red-Line mark-ups Support for safety performance, reduction of recordable injuries, Basic Safety Process compliance (BSP) and process safety management (PSM) conformance. Drive plant reliability initiatives for a wide variety of assets, equipment and systems.Develop, implement and support KPI monitoring at the plant level which includes work process development, the calculating of the algorithms and the reporting structure. Work with Plant Production Engineers (PPE) to develop and manage process and equipment monitoring triggers for both engineering support and operator process management. Support of all aspects of day-to-day operations, including troubleshooting plant process problems, directly supporting daily plant activities, month end closing and leading plant projects. Working with on-site operators, operations management, and external support resources to achieve productivity, reliability, and profitability targets in all areas. Management of Change (MOC) development, implementation and timely closure of open MOCs and action items. Identifying maintenance concerns, then developing and implementing corrective / preventative measures. Monitor and ensure alarm management integrity across all sites. Assist site leadership with outage planning. Occasionally prepare and facilitate site BSP meetings.Assist with tracking audit action items to completion. Serve as host for Engineering Internships in region.Minimum Hiring Requirements:
B.S. degree in engineering. Prefer 4-5 years’ experience in plant operation and maintenance.Work Hours
