The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

 

Scope of Purpose

Summer engineering intern position to support the manufacturing and engineering of world-class, high-precision optical systems. This is a dynamic position for an individual to work as part of Corning Advanced Optics’ mechanical design team.  Focus will be to work on new designs for precision optical assemblies, optimizing fabrication and metrology methods in optical, mechanical, and assembly departments.  Responsibilities include mechanical design/engineering, new product introduction, process development / process control, design of experiments, modeling / analysis support of opto-mechanical systems.

Social and networking opportunities Weekly tech talks Community involvement Requirements Pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Optical, Manufacturing, or Engineering Science (enrolled in Bachelor's or Master's degree) Completed coursework in Mechanical, Optical, Manufacturing, or Engineering Science. Strong organizational skills and detail oriented. Good written and oral communication skills. Good data analysis skills, using software such as Excel, JMP, MATLAB. Working knowledge of engineering tools such as Creo, Solidworks Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2025 with a graduation date of December 2025 or later. Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity. Be willing to work at the posted job location.

​The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly.  Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
