Purpose of the position:
The Plant Health and Safety Coordinator provides site-wide safety leadership by collaborating and coordinating safety, industrial hygiene, and training programs to maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
This position is responsible for the design and implementation of new safety programs and for fostering a spirit of continuous improvement to strengthen the site's safety culture. This role will collaborate with the operations and maintenance departments to build capability and execute key programs such as LOTO, safe work permit, hazard identification, pre-work safety reviews, ergonomics, and other life-critical programs.
This role will lead plant safety review meetings, track and report metrics and serve as the subject-matter-expert of the corporate database system for incident reporting, IH sampling and auditing. The Plant Health and Safety Coordinator provides technical support to plant for EHS compliance, maintain safety related records/reports, conducts periodic safety and audits/assessments.
In addition, this role plays a key leadership role in the investigations and learning process. The Plant Health and Safety Coordinator will lead and or participate in investigations, review, and follow-up on root cause(s) of incidents, track corrective actions, analyze site-wide trends, and propose enhancements to processes and or procedures.
Being an effective communicator is critical for this position, as the person in this role would be expected to engage with associates at all levels, create/maintain effective business partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, and serve as the site VPP coordinator, including the VPP branch of OSHA.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Sustain and continually improve a comprehensive EHS Management System.
Track and report safety, investigations, and learning metrics on a periodic basis.
Promote, manage, and continually improve the hazard identification program.
Provide technical safety support to the Safety/Health Coordinators
Ensure compliance of all the site safety programs associated with the following serious incident and/or potential indicators: isolation and control of hazardous energy, working at heights, permit required work, electrical safety, safeguarding, elevated loads, and vehicle movement.
Maintain and continuously improve safety, contractor, and industrial hygiene programs.
Organize safety and health awareness, communications, education, and training.
Support site-wide training programs and provide safety functional expertise.
Coordinate internal and 3rd party compliance and safety systems audits.
Support the continuous improvement of the incident investigation and learning process facilitated by the unit health and safety coordinators.
Track corrective and prevention action plan items to timely completion including action plans for incident investigations, audits, and gap assessments.
Collaborate with the Chemical Division EHS team to promote, develop, and implement the standardization of effective safety solutions across the Division.
Coordinate training re-certifications for Safety department associates: CSHO, fall protection competent persons (CP), excavation CP, lifting/rigging CP, etc.
Support the acquisition process of required PPE for all associates (Fire Retardant Clothing and Safety Toe Shoes).
Prepare and maintain annual/periodic purchase orders for the Safety Department
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, Engineering, or a related field
Certifications: GSP, ASP or CSP preferred but not required.
Experience:
One or more years of experience in Safety within a large manufacturing facility or 2 internships/co-op experiences of relevant experience.
Safety program and safety training development/implementation experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Working knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and other government safety requirements.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong communications, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to effectively communicate at various levels of the organization.

The pay range for this position is 67208 - 124816 /yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on factors such-as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location.
