Description
Under general supervision of the Maintenance Sup ervisor , the Lead Plant Maintenance Operator leads maintenance staff in the maint enance of the c ity’s wastewater treatment plants , water production facilities, and collection system lift stations to protect public health and the environment , ensuring compliance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) rules and regulations . Work with potentially hazardous chemicals and equipment in potentially hazardous work areas and environmental conditions .
Principal Duties
C oordinate , participate in, and monitor the daily work of assigned p lant o perators ensuring that predictive, preventative, corrective, and emergency maintenance tasks are performed safely, efficiently, and effectively of the c ity’s wastewater treatment plants, water production facilities, and collection system lift stations.
Assist the Maintenance Supervisor with a vari ety of duties , including but not limited to efficient procurement of parts, supplies and materials , maintenance schedules, equipment failure troubleshooting, infrastructure planning, designing , and construction; and hiring, evaluating and supervising the work of assigned plant o perators .
Create, maintain , utilize , and train others on work orders through a computerized maintenance management software ( Fiix ) for use in budget analysis , asset inventory, task planning, and cost-benefit analysis .
Communicate and coordinate with p lant s upervisors in wastewater treatment and water production to understand work priorities and arrange maintenance work schedules to minimize equipment down-time.
Assist with developing, maintain ing , utilizing, and training peers on written programs/policies/procedures pertaining to water production and wastewater treatment.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required: High School Diploma or GED equivalent and three (3) years of experience; or Associate degree and two (2) years of experience ; or the equivalent combination of education and experience
Texas Class A CDL with tanker and air brake endorsement s ( required f or internal promotion; external hire will be allowed 90 days from hire da te to obtain) ; and ability to maintain
Possess either Class C Groundwater or Class C Wastewater License issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) upon hire; ability to obtain and maintain both licenses (one which may be obtained within three ( 3 ) years from date of hire)
Knowledge of standard practices, methods, safety standards, tools, materials, and equipment used in water and wastewater treatment activities (to include the use of light and heavy equipment) .
Proven experience as a mechanical maintenance operator with basic understanding of equipment and systems used in water and wastewater treatment processes
Available for 24-hour emergency response and shift work including on-call duties, after hours , weekends , and holidays as assigned
Preferred: Previous experience in a l ead or s upervisory capacity with proven leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
Previous experience utilizing work order, asset management, and preventative maintenance software systems
Previous experience with carpentry, plumbing, and metal fabrication (cutting and welding equipment)
Class C Groundwater and Class C Wastewater License issued b y the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
