Plant Operations Manager

Position Summary

This is a supervisory position which manages maintenance and repair operations throughout the hospital system, including outlying clinics and a variety of related buildings and structures.  The Manager of Facility Services will serve as the primary point of contact for all maintenance and repair issues and identifying preventive maintenance needs on a consistent basis.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include:

Work includes making the final technical decisions in a wide variety of trades, administering the work order system, directing the health system’s preventive maintenance program. This position will have increased responsibility in any combination of related functions such as housekeeping, security, vehicle maintenance, facility expansions, renovations, designing and implementing small efficiency upgrades, and cost estimating of repairs and the roll out of new service lines. Other duties are as follows:

Serves as project manager for all facility projects to include managing work orders, maintenance staff and contractors, budgets, the availability of equipment and supplies, and making appropriate notifications to stakeholders;  Reviews make or review technical decisions in most trades including carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, electric, electronics, masonry, welding, painting and mechanics; along with decisions in related functions and para-professional engineering;   Manages requisitions, purchases, and stock control procedures for tools, parts and supplies; Acts as principle advisor to management concerning the technical aspects of maintaining, replacing, and renovating equipment and facilities, to include deciding if work can be completed in-house or should be contracted;   Directs, supervises, plans, prioritizes, schedules and evaluates the work of subordinates to ensure the successful and timely completion of tasks;  Provides on-the-job training, conducts counseling sessions and administers disciplinary actions to ensure maintenance staff adherence to established policies, procedures, and deadlines;  Plans the daily and weekly work schedules and establishes the shorter-term priorities and deadlines within established objectives and goals;  Screens, interviews and hires applicants for vacant positions;   Acts as fire marshal and directs safety programs to detect, minimize, and control fires and fire hazards;  Administers budget line items for maintenance and repair activities and develops estimates, prioritizes needs and recommends parts, equipment, material and other budget items;  Processes information on tracking and monitoring databases as required in performing job responsibilities.

Qualifications

Associates Degree in industrial maintenance technology, mechanical engineering or related field.  Licensure in a building or mechanical trade such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, of construction specialties, preferred. Minimum of five years progressive experience in facility maintenance.  Consideration will be given for any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training. Thorough knowledge of repair, maintenance and construction techniques and of the tools, methods, practices, materials and equipment used in the building and mechanical trades. Working knowledge of building codes, environmental rules and all other rules and regulations governing repair, maintenance and construction of facilities. Must have a working knowledge of JCAHO standards and facility regulations. Two years hospital experience in engineering department in management/ supervision, preferred.
