Our GFL Pickering location is looking for a Plant Operator to join the liquids division. Under general direction from the Operations Manager, the Plant Operator is responsible for day-to-day operations with respect to waste receiving, handling, processing and disposal.
Key Responsibilities:
Receive all client waste – both bulk and containerizedTake samples from waste vehicles and containers for lab analysisLoad and unload waste vehicles including vacuum trucks, tankers, straight trucks and van trailersOperate plant machinery and assist with general maintenanceAssisting in waste processing methods and processesAssist with preparing shipments of hazardous and non-hazardous waste for transportGain a full understanding and working knowledge of the company’s standard operating procedures (SOPs), and ensure they are followedNotify the Supervisor/Manager of any defects, damages, mistakes, errors, contamination, spills, other incidents or accidents that are identifiedDocument and report completion status of work assigned by the Supervisor/ManagerComply with rules, procedures, safe work and hygiene practices, health and safety standards and use of personal protective equipmentMaintain work area to ensure to compliance with housekeeping, environmental and safety regulationsKnowledge, Skills and Competencies:
Previous hazardous and non-hazardous waste management experience is an assetPrevious experience operating air diaphragm pumps and bulk liquid transfer systems is an assetPropane forklift experience/certification is an assetWilling to work overtime, alternate shifts and weekendsMust be motivated, able to multi-task, and work effectively in a team environmentMust be safety conscious and detail orientedMust be comfortable working in a mostly outdoor environment in all weather conditionsAbility to follow procedures and execute work with minimal supervisionAbility to lift upwards of 50 lbs.Emergency response availability including evenings and weekendsWho we are:
