To learn more, please visit www.middlesexwater.com Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Superintendent of Production and the Water Quality Compliance Planner, the Plant Operator maintains, monitors and operates production facilities and distribution system flows, pressures and storage tank levels. These responsibilities require the utilization of remote computer monitoring and control equipment, local control panel units and local equipment operational controls. The Plant Operator will assist the Superintendent of Production, Water Quality Compliance Planner or the Production Foreman with all scheduled and unanticipated Plant maintenance tasks. Work Performed: + Operates the Runyon Treatment Plant using the SCADA control computer and the local control equipment as required. + Operates and controls electric raw water well field motors, pumps and valves to regulate flow of raw water into the treatment plant. + Operates the electric high lift pumps at the Runyon Treatment Plant in order to meet the flow requirements for the City of Perth Amboy. + Maintains and monitors the Perth Amboy distribution system pressures and water storage tank levels. + Maintains and monitors water treatment process through the addition and adjustment of water treatment chemicals in order to meet changing raw water quality and clarifier sludge blanket levels. + Operates the plant clarifiers and adjusts mixer speeds, blow off valve timers, flows and water treatment chemicals in order to maintain sludge blanket levels. + Operates and controls the plant filtration system including flows, backwash system and effluent turbidity monitoring. + Performs laboratory testing as required to monitor water process. Testing data is entered onto the Operator’s shift report or other form supplied. + Periodically collects process data and enters the information onto the shift report, spreadsheet or by hand on the operational forms supplied. + Performs Runyon Plant equipment and facilities maintenance checks as required. + Responds to plant, facilities and distribution system alarms, emergencies and crisis situations through contact with on-call supervision and established emergency and crisis management procedures. + Handles customer inquiries, complaints and problems in a courteous and polite manner through contact with the posted on-call personnel. + Will work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays as scheduled. Note that some mandatory overtime may be required as necessary to maintain facility operations. + Perform all duties required to maintain a clean, safe and sanitary work area. Qualifications: + High school diploma or equivalent. + Experience operting a water treatment facility desirable. + Ability to obtain a T-1 water treatment license within four years of the date of employment. + Must maintain a valid motor vehicle license. + Ability to speak, read, write and understand English.
