JOB SUMMARY: 

 

Under the direction of the Plant Manager, the Production Scheduler directs, plans, administers, and schedules incoming orders for best service and efficiency throughout the Montgomery Plant.  The Production Scheduler creates and maintains production schedules to ensure that all company goals and objectives are achieved, and deadlines are met.  The Production Scheduler must have a strong understanding of the production process, generate and maintain effective daily/weekly schedules, post schedules, resolve production issues, seek to improve processes, and fulfill company expectations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Provide a well-planned production schedule that meets customer requirements and maximizes machine efficiencies. Utilize JDE and Cognos to prepare production schedule.Coordinate blends of materials with inventories and various machines. Manage capacity, overtime, and changeovers while collaborating with operations. Manage planned downtime (holidays, shutdown, maintenance) while collaborating with operations.Plan production with “make to order” items within capacity constraints.Collaborate with Supply Chain Analyst on execution of the master production scheduling plan. Verify material availability and coordinate with Purchasing/Materials for incoming raw material deliveries.Balance priority of backorders with other planned production; provide updates on overdue work orders.Integrate all trials into the production schedule.Manage expectations with customer service and Logistics. Reconcile and close work orders.Participate in employee driven teams to address scrap, quality, safety, or other plant related issues.Make capital recommendations for budgeting purposes. Review production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates to plan department operations. Reviews production schedule to ensure equipment capabilities and maximum production efficiencies. Monitor blend recipes and resin pricing; initiate resin substitutions based on resin availability and costs. Conduct daily reviews with production staff to optimize production. Willing to work flexible schedule to accommodate production and shift needs. Perform other related functions and duties as assigned or required.

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Knowledge normally acquired through completion of a two year technical degree in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, supply chain, or other related technical field or equivalent combination of education and experience; four year degree and Six Sigma Certification is preferred. Experience using an MRP/ERP system; proficiency in gathering, analyzing and interpreting data; proficient in Microsoft Excel and related office applications; effectively communicate with customers, both external and internal. Provide the highest quality products and services, which meet the needs and requirements of internal and external customers; re-engineers processes from scratch; create a learning environment leading to the most efficient and effective work processes; look for ways to improve and promote quality; demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness.Balance team and individual responsibilities; exhibit objectivity and openness to others' views; provide and welcome feedback. Develop workable implementation plans; communicate changes effectively; build commitment and overcome resistance; prepare and support those affected by change; monitor transition and evaluate results. Understand business implications of decisions; display orientation to profitability; demonstrate knowledge of market and competition; align work with strategic goals. Ability to organize and prioritize work activities and to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to make practical decisions without appreciable direction or advance preparation. Computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office desktop applications and the ability to learn and operate JDE, Kronos, and other business management software. Ability to work in high-pressure situations while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and professionalism. Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to influence people effectively and efficiently in order to meet production and organization goals.Ability to effectively manage complex, difficult, and emotional situations involving employees. Self-starter that uses initiative within established policies and procedural guidelines. Ability to multi-task and effectively manage rapidly changing priorities. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.Ability to adhere to Berry’s Safety, Health, and Environmental Vision, Policy, and Standards. Primarily a day shift work schedule; flexible work schedule includes holidays and weekends when necessary.  Ability to stand, sit, kneel, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and crawl. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted. Ability to work in warm, humid, and cool climates. Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) which includes safety glasses, safety goggles, hearing protection, steel toe shoes/boots, face shield, and gloves.

Education: At least 4 years technical degree in manufacturing, mechanical engineering or related technical field or equivalent combination of work expirience and techical knowlage.
