Job Posting Details: Talen Energy is looking for candidates to fill an opening for Plant Technician-E&C. This position would be located at the Talen Energy H.A. Wagner power plant facility in Baltimore, MD (Pasadena area). We are looking for qualified candidates with electrical work experience, including over five years related work experience in the areas of evaluation and testing of generating plant and substation power equipment, or equivalent combination of formal education/training and experience. The H.A. Wagner Plant consists of natural gas and oil-fired units. The position reports to the Production Supervisor. The expected salary range for this position is $95,000.00 to $115,000.00 annually. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors as permitted by law. Primary Purpose & Summary (Electrical): Performs tests on new and in-service equipment such as DCS, Instrumentation, PLCs, cables, power transformers, circuit breakers, and motors. Performs troubleshooting, testing, repairing, and maintenance on a variety of electrical equipment and controls for power plant equipment, both AC & DC, with voltages ranging from 115V up to 230KV. Responsibilities (Electrical): 1. Inspects, maintains, and repairs electrical equipment utilizing a variety of test equipment and tools. 2. Performs controls troubleshooting and PMs. 3. Performs High Voltage switching of circuit breakers and transformers. 4. Performs lock out/tag out of electrical equipment in accordance with company policies and procedures. 5. Works with AC & DC electrical equipment with expectations to follow NFPA 70E. 6. Will be subject to rotating shift work, holiday and weekend work in addition to short overtime notice. Skills/Competencies (Electrical): 1. Proficient at reading and understanding electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and one-line drawings. 2. Able to use test equipment such as voltage testers, insulation resistance testers, ammeters, phase meters, process meters. 3. General knowledge of electrical theory. 4. Understands the operation and use of Programmable Logic Control (PLC). 5. Has a working knowledge of motors, transformers, relays, breakers, switches, and solenoids. 6. Performs modifications/additions of plant equipment by bending conduit, running cable, and terminating connections. 7. Inputs data into a work management system (Maximo) and Cornerstone Database. 8. Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. 9. Establishes and maintains a cooperative and effective working relationship with others. 10. Effective communication across all levels. 11. Able to respond to unplanned call-ins, weekend work, work schedule changes. Education & Experience Required (Electrical): 1. Satisfactory completion of post-high school courses in AC & DC electrical theory/equipment applications and over five years related work experience (e.g., evaluation and testing of generating plant and substation power equipment) or equivalent combination of formal education/training and experience. 2. Experience in computer programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc). 3. Experience in report preparation. 4. Working knowledge of mathematics up to and including trigonometry and ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and drawings. 5. Knowledge and application of safety procedures and practices involving work on and around high voltage equipment. 6. Demonstrated reliability and responsibility and the ability to make quick and effective technical decisions. Licenses/Certifications Required: 1. Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to meet Company driving standards. 2. Able to qualify for TWIC card. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions: Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail, despite interruptions, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen for long periods of time. Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone. At times, an individual may respond to environmental release situations. Physical & Mental Demands: The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Physical Demands: At the Power Plant facility and in/outdoor environment, must be able to work in adverse conditions that may include, but not be limited to the following: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to climb stairs, ladders, and work on elevated platforms. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to lift 45 pounds overhead and 75 pounds from the floor to 36 inches. Must be willing to travel to other facilities if needed. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color distinction with vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to work around high voltage. Must have manual dexterity and ability to manipulate keyboards. Must be capable of wearing respirators and working in dusty environments. On occasions employee may be required to work at heights where guarding or fall protection is required. Must be capable of wearing respirators and working in dusty environments. Must be capable of satisfying a medical examination to achieve clearance for participation as an Emergency Response Team Member. This includes evaluation of physical condition required to perform in high physical and emotional stress situations involving Confined Space Rescue, HazMat Operations Level, and Incipient Fire Brigade activities. Mental Demands: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills, read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve complex problems, observe and interpret situations, use math and mathematical reasoning; deal with changing, intensive deadlines, and interact with internal and external clients. Must be able to concentrate while under time constraints. Exposure to hazards associated with power and hand tools, dust, fumes, high pressure steam, high temperatures and confined spaces; and may be regularly subject to external environmental conditions such as cold, heat dust, snow or noise and fumes from equipment or chemicals.
