Plant Technician - I&C Technician - Independence

Job Summary

The I&C Technician installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains all process instruments, controls, computers, PLCs, DCS, analyzing and electrical systems of the facility. This equipment includes, but is not limited to the Combustion Turbine Generators, boilers, and auxiliary equipment. Inspect repair, install and remove all types of switches, control equipment, transmitters, wiring, electrical signal and communication systems. Selected candidate must adhere to all company safety & environmental policies and procedures and effectively communicate information to supervision and fellow plant personnel, relative to the condition of the plant equipment and performance, and provide suggestions for plant improvements. Uses facility operating procedures and equipment technical manuals to maintain and repair facility equipment and ensure equipment is operated within operating range.

Performs troubleshooting and documentation, and assists in the resolution of problems discovered on shiftPerforms daily maintenance, overhauls, calibration, troubleshooting, repair/replacement and removal/installation of plant equipment and systems.Makes decisions and recommends appropriate repair techniques for plant equipment to peers, supervisors, plant management.Conducts excitation system inspections and preventive maintenanceProficient in operating material handling equipmentDevelops and implements plant operating proceduresUnderstands relationship of equipment to plant systemsMay provide instruction and teaching to lower level employeesEnsures strict adherence to safety, health and environmental procedures as they relate to plant operations and maintenance including but not limited to Lockout Tagout, Job Safety Analysis, Confined Space, Hot Work, Electrical Safety and PPE

Required Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent.Basic skills in AC/DC electrical circuits and controlAbility to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignmentAbility to work from drawings and instruction manuals.Theoretical and practical knowledge of electricity, electrical safety, circuits, control, equipment, electrical and instrumentation schematics4-6 years related experience,  preferably in an industrial or power plant environment.Excellent oral and written communication skillsExcellent organizational skillsExperience with complete range of transmitter calibration equipmentExperience with PLC , DCS, pneumatic control valves and systems, basic electronics, motor control systems and process control systemsAbility to read and understand schematics and P&ID drawings.Ability to perform annual instrument calibrations as part of the electrical and instrumentation team.Ability to properly use electrical test equipment and other similar tools.Basic computer skills such as MS Office, Maximo.Ability to read, write and follow written and verbal instructions.Ability to work well with others and be self-directed, as well as apply creative solutions to unique IC&E problems is desirableAbility to coordinate IC&E work with outside contractors and OEMs as requiredCandidates must successfully complete POSS/MASS exam for considerationPosition may be filled at a different level, based on experience

Desired Qualifications:

Five years’ experience as a plant technician in a power plant environment, or related fieldDCS ExperiencePLC Experience: Allen Bradley, GE FANUC, ABB, etc.Combined Cycle Combustion Turbine Facility experienceCombined Cycle Steam Turbine Facility experiencePreferred CEMS maintenance/Trouble shooting experienceDCS and PLC to I/O to field device troubleshooting experienceElectro-mechanical, solid state, and microprocessor relay experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Physical requirements include: Working on feet for extensive periods, working from heights, requiring stair and ladder climbing. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some Work with hazardous materials may be required. Availability for call-ins and overtime will be required. Ability to push, pull, or lift minimum of 50 pounds.  Walking, standing, bending, and climbing as required.  Work environment is a typical power plant environment including heat and cold, indoors and outdoors, dusty conditions, high noise levels, heights and confined spaces.
