The Plumber is responsible for performing tasks that are basically plumbing and pipefitting oriented and are typical of those tasks found in maintenance and/or construction.

Responsibilities

Inspects, installs, repairs, and maintains, water, sewage, drainage, steam, condensate piping, gas, oil, and air piping assemblies and related fixtures.

Inspects, repairs, installs and maintains pumps sewage systems, medical gas systems, valves, fixtures, traps, gauges, water systems, steam and condensate piping, gas, oil, and air piping, and other related items in this field.

Reads blueprints, schematics, and related type drawings and specifications to determine proper layout and accomplishment of assigned tasks.

Prepares detailed estimates of quantity of materials, supplies, and time necessary to accomplish assigned tasks.

Installs, repairs, maintains, and/or replaces valves, fittings, pipe, gauges, pumps, heaters, pressure vessels, and other related items.

Performs assigned tasks with either hand or power tools and in accordance with written or oral instructions.

Selects stock, tools, and supplies for assigned tasks.

Operates vehicle as required and maintains a maximum/minimum stock system of supplies and tools on vehicle.

Performs duties/tasks in accordance with all state and local codes and inspections.

Loads and unloads stock, tools, and supplies from vehicles.

May instruct other personnel in education of job and tool safety and the plumbing and pipefitting field.

Stores stock, tools, and supplies in their assigned location.

Maintains on going knowledge of applicable codes pertaining to hospitals and the plumbing and pipefitting field.

Completes sections of service requests, work requests, and/or project forms such as time and date started, time and date completed, and materials used.

Maintains work area in a safe and orderly manner.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Must have four (4) years experience in the plumbing and pipefitting field. The four (4) years can be one of the following:

A. A combination of successful completion of one (1) year in a technical school and three (3) years experience in the plumbing and pipefitting field. Each 100 hours technical school over the required 1300 may be substituted for one-half year work experience.

B. Successful completion of a four year apprenticeship program in the plumbing and pipefitting field.

C. Job related experience in functional area totaling 4000 hours.

Technical school(s) must be a combination of classroom study and shop experience. The course should contain no less than 1300 hours and include such subjects as fundamentals of plumbing and pipefitting, National Plumbing Code, blueprint reading,
specification preparation, human relations, mathematics, applied science, mechanical drawing, basic oxyacetylene cutting and welding, identification and properties of metals, designing and installing plumbing systems, designing and installing water, steam, and gas piping for heating and cooling systems, and use of hand and power tools.

Cooperative education and program where the student receives on-the-job experience with business and industry may be substituted for shop experience.

Must possess Master Plumber or Journeyman Plumber license to qualify for job grade 14 pay rate.
