Responsible for the inspection, operation, maintenance and repair of water supply and wastewater collection systems and related components such as hot water heaters and plumbing fixtures, including potable and no-potable water, and facility interior utility systems in accordance with the performance work statement to support the mission at AAAF. Position is located on Ascension Island. This position is contingent based on contract award. This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company. Responsibilities Major Job Activities: Supports the Wastewater and Storm Water Sub-AMP ensuring asset lifecycle of all Air Force-owned industrial and domestic wastewater systems up to the five-foot line of serviced facilities, including lift stations, collection lines, manholes, wastewater treatment plants, oil-water separators, other wastewater pre-treatment units, storm water pipes, swales, detention and retention areas, and outfalls. Works closely with the Land Sub-AMP, if applicable, to provide watershed-level storm water planning Provides service to Air Force-owned potable water, non-potable water, and fire emergency services (FES) systems ensuring five-foot from the structures. This includes wells, distribution lines, potable water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants, pumps, valves, hydrants, and storage. Operates and maintains facility plumbing systems which include: Water distribution lines, sanitary sewage lines, water heaters, solar water heaters, interior roof drainage components, distribution boxes, valves, piping, fittings, fixtures, gauges, vents, and roof jacks. The Contractor shall operate, maintain, and repair potable and fire water distribution systems including wells, reservoirs, booster stations, storage tanks, pump stations, cathodic protection units, chlorinating units, surge tanks, hydrants, sprinkler systems, and related distribution infrastructure IAW AFMAN 32-1067. Perform cross-connection inspections and prevent backflow of all water systems and equipment in the cross-connection program. Performs water flow tests as directed by the Government IAW UFC 3-230-02. Conducts bacteriological sampling and analysis after repair to verify the water system has not been contaminated. Operate, maintain, and repair wastewater systems and related infrastructure, oil and water separators, and grease traps IAW current industrial and municipal standards, DoD directives, HN standards, and Environmental Final Governing Standards. Material & Equipment Directly Used: Good communication, teamwork and customer service skills. Knowledge of plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques Knowledge of plumbing codes Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material Ability to perform mathematical calculations Ability to diagnose and resolve problems Ability to use hand and power tools Working Environment: Working on Ascension Island requires adaptability to a remote location with limited amenities and potential isolation. Be prepared to manage safety concerns related to harsh weather conditions. Effective resource management is critical due to potential constraints on personnel and equipment. Physical Activities: Climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking. May experience long periods outdoor/indoor to perform duties. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times. Qualifications Education / Certifications: : Equivalent experience from which comparable knowledge and job skills can be obtained may be substituted for education, if degree is required. High School/GED Associate degree or vocational training preferred Experience / Skills: A minimum of three years' of experience in the operations, maintenance and repair of plumbing systems. Experience in a military contingency environment and knowledge and experience working with government contracts preferred. Strong knowledge of safety regulations and best practices. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders. Ability to work independently and as part of a large team in a remote environment. Ability to conduct thorough investigations and analyze data to identify root causes. Leadership qualities to promote a positive safety culture and influence behavior. Proficiency in risk assessment methodologies. First aid and emergency response training may be required. Must be prepared to provide service support to perform unscheduled emergency or critical plumbing work, within 30 minutes.
