Plumber Trainee - Career Opportunity - San Diego, CAJob Description - 1st shift (Nassco Shipyard)Duties will consist of assisting in installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing systems on new ships. Performing basic plumbing tasks under the supervision of experienced plumbers. Learning to work with various types of piping materials, including copper, PVC, and galvanized pipes. Supporting in fitting and assembling pipes, fixtures, and other plumbing equipment. Performing routine inspections to ensure plumbing systems function correctly and adhere to safety standards. Keeping the workspace clean and organized, adhering to safety protocols and company guidelines. Participate in training sessions to expand plumbing knowledge and skills relevant to ship construction.ResponsibilitiesAssist in the installation of insulation of compartment floors, ceilings, or interior/exterior walls.Use tools and equipment in an efficient and safe manner for daily activities.Assist in caulking windows, doors, wash basins, and toilet and shower modules.Assist in the installation of adhesives, tiles, and carpeting of compartments.Review compartment blueprints and sketches to assist in installation or electrical work.Size, strap, and pull cable; install and hook up lights, switches, equipment, and power panels as required.Adhere to all safety rules and regulations.Essential SkillsBasic understanding of plumbing tools and materials.Familiarity with the shipyard environment and working with various hand and power tools.Experience in the construction industry.Mechanically inclined.Preferred shipyard or construction experience.Capable of reading and interpreting documents and instructions.Work EnvironmentThe work environment involves working inside the NASSCO yard, supporting new construction projects (MATSON, TAO-X contracts). The job requires the use of various tools, and adherence to safety protocols is mandatory. The dress code and specific tool requirements include having a flashlight, screwdrivers, tape measure, vice grip pliers, clamps, screw pouch, pop rivet gun, crescent wrench, combination wrenches, ratchet, combination square, and a lockable heavy-duty tool bag with a padlock.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, California.Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00
