Job Summary
Under general supervision, is responsible for performing plumbing inspection work and enforcing compliance for new construction, remodeling, alterations, repairs, moving, or demolition of structures to ensure compliance with the City adopted building codes, zoning ordinances, and other related City ordinances. Exercises no supervision.

Essential Job Functions
+ Conducts inspections to ensure proposed construction conforms to the International Plumbing Code, International Fuel Gas Code, International Energy Conservation Code, NFPA 99C, TECQ requirements as applicable and the Unified Development Code.
+ Discuss repairs, alterations, and new construction with owners and contractors; explains and interprets building codes and regulations.
+ Issues verbal or written orders for correction of defects in materials, workmanship, and other violations of codes and ordinances.
+ Documents inspection results and investigations in laptop or desktop computer using land development software.
+ Responds to questions by phone pertaining to building related codes, zoning, and the Unified Development Code.
+ Inspectional work requires communication by a variety of methods and may include sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting, crawling, kneeling, climbing ladders of any height and may lift/carry up to 50 pounds at work sites.
+ Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Job Requirements
+ High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency)
+ Four (4) years of experience as a Journey Level Plumber or Plumbing Inspector
+ Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License
+ Valid Journeyman Plumber license issued by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners
+ Must obtain Plumbing Inspector license issued by Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners within six (6) months of employment.
+ Must obtain International Code Council (ICC) certification as a Plumbing Inspector within eighteen (18) months of employment

+ Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
+ Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Knowledge of International Plumbing Code and International Fuel Gas Code for Plumbing Inspector
+ Knowledge of the International Energy Conservation Code for all inspectors
+ Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of building construction
+ Knowledge of basic architectural and engineering principles and practices
+ Knowledge of architectural and engineering mathematics
+ Skill in utilizing Architectural and Engineering scales and tools
+ Skill in utilizing a personal computer and associated software programs
+ Ability to learn the Unified Development Code of the City of San Antonio
+ Ability to learn City Ordinances relating to zoning and building construction
+ Ability to properly interpret and apply all applicable related codes
+ Ability to read blueprints and specifications
+ Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
+ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the public
+ Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations
+ Working conditions are primarily in a field environment
