Time Type: Full time Department: Behavioral Health Urgent Care All Locations: East Boston Position Summary: The Psychiatric nurse practitioner, in close consultation with primary care, social work, and other members of the treatment team, provides office-based psychiatric evaluation and treatment for adult and child participants cared for at NeighborHealth. In addition to direct evaluation and treatment, the Psychiatric nurse practitioner provides consultation, on request, to members of the treatment team. Establishes rapport and develops therapeutic relationships with patients of diverse backgrounds and varying levels of motivation for change. Demonstrates knowledge of the full range of community resources to property guide and direct patients. Renders accurate diagnoses utilizing the DSM 5. Writes up and presents completed emergency assessments for clinical disposition in a clear and organized manner. Provides consultation to and coordinates patient care with multidisciplinary BHUCS staff. Provides consultation to and coordinates patient care with the staff of the Satellite Emergency Facility (SEF). Conducts a focused physical exam when necessary. Screens for domestic violence, substance abuse and risk behaviors with every patient, applying protocols for intervention with positive screenings. Orders and interprets appropriate laboratory tests, radiologic tests and EKGs with the support of the SEF. Interfaces with families of patients seen in the BHUCS to provide information and obtain collateral information. Demonstrates capacity to diagnose and effectively treat a range of behavioral health conditions: anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders and moderate-severe personality disorders. Demonstrates excellent, advanced phone assessment/triage skills, assigning the appropriate level of priority at all times. Uses clinical supervision to address advanced prescribing questions. Performs advanced, high-quality, thorough psychosocial evaluations that contains data in support of the diagnosis, findings, recommendations and plans. Meets the departmental documentation standards in a timely fashion. Applies criteria for urgent care-driven mental health care, appropriately assigning patients to inpatient or outpatient services and referring to community agencies. Demonstrates excellent clinical judgement in assessing changes in risk, enlisting the Administrative and/or Medical Directors and initiating Special Clinical Reviews as indicated. Attains working knowledge of all departmental policies and procedures and interprets them to new staff, interns and assigned supervisees. Applies short-term, solution-based and evidence-based pharmacotherapies. May obtain and X waiver and prescribe medications to assist with substance use recovery. Provides consultation, training and supervision to departmental staff as well as interns and PMHNP residents.
