PNEUDRAULIC SYSTEMS MECHANIC LEADER

The primary purpose of this position, PNEUDRAULIC SYSTEMS MECHANIC LEADER, WL-8255-10, is to serve as a work leader, working directly with journeyman and non-journeyman performing all tasks assigned to overhaul, repair, and modify pneudraulic driven valves, governors, actuators and associated equipment. Required to perform the tasks of a journeyman pneudraulic mechanic. Responsibilities Provide technical guidance to subordinates on assignments and passes on instructions received from the supervisor. Disassemble, repair, rebuild, modify, test, troubleshoot, and installs the more complex hydraulic and pneumatic systems designed to adjust automatically to factors such as temperature, humidity, pressure, or rate of change of velocity, or have sensing devices that feedback into the system information on the systems' performance. Accomplish record keeping, manual and/or automated. Provides leadership for tool control and sets the example for proper tool maintenance. Utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8200 Fluid Systems Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is: Ability To Lead Or Supervise JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic). Use of Measuring Instrument. Ability to Interpret Instruction, specification, etc. (Includes blueprint reading). Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment. Trouble shooting. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The incumbent is frequently required to work in awkward or cramped conditions when positioning items in test stands, and to exercise visual and tactile sensitivity in lapping, polishing, adjusting, and aligning items. Frequently handles objects weighting up to 25 pounds without assistance and occasionally objects weighting more than 25 pounds with mechanical or human assistance. Positon requires the incumbent to lift, reach, push, pull, bend, walk, sit, and stand for prolonged periods of time. Required to ascend and descend narrow vertical ladders or staging, often while carrying tools and equipment. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is usually performed in areas that are adequately lighted, ventilated, and heated. Incumbent may work inside and outside, subject to varying temperature. The incumbent is frequently exposed to loud noise from the movement of machinery and test equipment; to the possibility of cuts, burns, electrical shock, and bruises from moving parts of machinery; and to unpleasant conditions from dirt, grease, fuel, toxic fumes, solvents, and gases. Required to work around High Pressure test stand operations, blast booth operations, parts washer, and spray cleaning operations. Various protective devices such as gloves, ear plugs, face shield, safety shoes, and safety glasses are used. Education Additional Information Hill Air Force Base provides worldwide engineering and logistics management for the F-16 Fighting Falcon, A-10 Thunderbolt II, and the Minuteman III ICBM, and performs depot maintenance of the F-16, A-10, and C-130 Hercules aircraft. The base is located between Ogden and Salt Lake City. The area is known for year round activities, including skiing, hiking, boating, extreme sports, fishing and hunting, with four distinct seasons, low humidity and moderate snow fall in the valley.
