PRN Police Officer

Summary

The Campus Police Officer is responsible for protecting persons and property in and around the Medical Center. He/She will make periodic rounds checking for evidence of fire, safety hazards, or illegal activities. He/She will respond to emergencies and provide service as needed on Campus. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

The Campus Police Officer must be a self starter. 

Monitors activities in and around building and grounds of the medical center campus including, parking lots, loading docks, and other medial center owned property, or work sites to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, illegal entry and vagrants. 

Provides surveillance and protection of Medical Center patients, employee's., staff, visitors in a timely manner. 

Operate Police Cruiser

Confronts unauthorized persons for questioning and prevents escalation of security incidents and civil disturbances. 

Responsible for becoming familiar with departmental policies and procedures and enforces hospital policies, such as but not limited to: Loitering, smoking in unauthorized locations, unauthorized removal of hospital property which may includes apprehending or physically expelling persons engage in suspicious or criminal acts when appropriate. 

Report any unusual conditions or malfunctions in heating, plumbing or electrical systems, including all exterior lighting that is not functioning properly. 

Responds to calls for assistance and protects staff and other innocent persons from being injured in a conflict or confrontation. 

Attempts to resolve the situation if able, and calls for assistance in situation beyond his/her control. 

Subdues or restrains any individual whose behavior warrants physical intervention on direction of a physician or RN in ER, or Mental 

Health Practitioner on any behavioral services unit, or any place where the patients is at the time of the incident. In the absence of a physician or RN use good judgments following the restraint and seclusion policy. 

Transport money and patient valuables for safe keeping and properly document all transactions in the appropriate location. 

Responds to emergency codes, disaster situations immediately, and know and carries out assigned duties as describe in the department or hospital polices. Follow on-call policy 

Keep a professional work area clean at all times, includes security vehicles. 

Control access to all urgent care areas at all times both external and internal. 

Maintains accurate and legible records of daily activities and all incidents. Completes records and reports thoroughly. 

Complies with and ensures uniform, personal hygiene identified in department and or medical center policies are met. 

Provide timely escort service to staff and visitors on campus property. Provide staff security during assigned lot duties . 

Make runs to off site locations on request when authorized. 

Perform all other duties as assigned in a professional and in a timely manner. Proper use of radio codes and radio etiquette at all times. 

Willingness to work over when necessary, also willingness to change plans with short notice when needed to provide adequate staffing. Understand and follow the vacation and staffing policy. Follow the call-in policy. Follow attendance guidelines for business meeting and training sessions. Understands shift specific duties and know where to get the information. Reads memos at the beginning of your shift. Understand court procedures for filing charges Have the ability to participate in P.I. initiatives need needed. 

Monitors activities in and around the emergency department grounds of the medical center campus including parking lots, other medical center owned property, or work site to prevent fire, theft vandalism, illegal entry and vagrants. 

Controls access to urgent care areas external and internal. 

Enforces after hour visitation according to hospital policy. 

Takes pictures of patients on request from authorized medical personnel. 

Responds to calls for assistance and protects staff and other innocent persons from being injured in a conflict or confrontation. 

Attempts to resolve the situation if able and calls for assistance in situation beyond his/her control. 

Subdues or restrains a patient whose behavior warrants physical intervention according to the restraint and seclusion policy on direction of a physician or his/her designee in the treatment area or any place where the patient is at the time of the incident. 

In the absence of a physician or RN the officer must use good judgment according to the restraints and seclusion policy. 

Qualifications 

High School / GED 

Completion of Ohio Peace Officers Training (required)
