Policy Analyst

Job Description:

The Policy Analyst at the School of Public Health’s Department of Health Services Policy & Practice joins a vibrant team supporting the activities of the Department and related projects of the hiring research center. Currently, the Department and Center conduct high impact research on topics including efforts to improve value in Medicare and Medicaid, improve the performance of the Medicare Advantage program, identify the causes and solutions to commercial price growth, and study policy changes to improve healthcare at the state level. The Policy Analyst’s role will be to help translate the results of this robust body of work and communicate the key takeaways to policymakers, the media, and other constituents.


As a core member of the Center’s policy translation team, the Policy Analyst will help serve as a bridge to ensure that research findings are well positioned to impact policy, specifically at the state level. The Policy Analyst will report to the Director of Health Policy Strategy. After studies are completed, the Policy Analyst will help to identify the actionable findings from these studies, help to identify opportunities to connect the research/investigators to state policymakers, and help to write briefs and communicate these results. The Policy Analyst will also track developments in state health policy, coordinate the provision of technical assistance to state policymakers, and help to identify areas of policy and research alignment to ensure the research work of the Center is optimally targeted to drive change.

Education & Experience

● Grade 10: Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience in health policy OR Master’s / JD degree and 1 year of experience in health policy.


Job Competencies
● Knowledge experience in health policy, specifically at the state level
● Experience with state/national policymaking
● Experience synthesizing/disseminating research findings
● Familiarity with research methods and policy and regulatory processes
● Excellent writing and communication skills
● Experience with email and newsletter management, copywriting, and editing
● Ability to set goals and work independently to manage both short- and long-term responsibilities
● Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail
● Event planning ability
● Ability to travel as needed
