Policy Analyst & Regulatory Liaison

Policy Analyst & Regulatory Liaison Alliance Defending Freedom is looking for a Policy Analyst & Regulatory Liaison to join us in our Washington, DC Office. As the Policy Analyst & Regulatory Liaison, you are a vital part of the Strategic Initiatives team. In this role, you will promote ADF's strategic objectives via education and advocacy to the federal administrative agencies. As an alliance builder, the Policy Analyst & Regulatory Liaison will manage contact with members and/or staff of federal administrative agencies and help develop policies to support ADF’s strategic objectives in the federal rulemaking process. Your Essential Responsibilities: In this position, you will: + Advocate and coordinate support for ADF's positions to federal administrative agencies. + Promote and support strategies and approaches for effective advocacy to advance ADF’s strategic objectives. + Serve as an internal liaison between relevant ADF teams that address federal agency action. + Routinely meet with ADF’s Regulatory Team to remain apprised of pending actions and to develop policy and strategy in coordination with the Regulatory Team. + Develop contacts and sources within key federal agencies. + Meet regularly with administrative officials, staff, and other stakeholders to discuss policy, strategy, and how to effectively advocate to agency officials and the public. + Track, research, analyze, and evaluate proposed rules and translate them into potential action plans. + Assist in developing formal comments on NPRMs and other documents communicating the potential value or harm of proposed rules. + Encourage and facilitate effective working relationships with policy allies and coalition groups in the administrative and regulatory arena. + Write op-Eds and other media pieces as permitted and requested by management. + Assist the federal government relations team with outreach and events, as requested and necessary. + Work collaboratively within the ADF team and with external allies. Other Responsibilities (Non-Essential): + You will be asked to perform related duties or special projects as assigned. Skills you need to succeed: Knowledge of: + Federal administrative agencies and executive branch processes and procedures. + Current political environment and ongoing strategic implications that affect the regulatory activities of ADF. + Research, analysis, and evaluation of federal agency action, rules, regulations, and policies. + Establishing and bolstering relationships with key agency staff and among allied organizations. + ADF’s mission and strategic objectives. Demonstrated proficiency in: + Strong communication and relationship development skills. + Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Word and Outlook. + Strong time management skills. + Strong organizational skills. + Excellent analytical skills. + Effective advocacy skills, including demonstrated advanced verbal and written communication skills. + Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective broad-range working relationships, as well as the proven ability to work independently and collaboratively on internal and external teams. + Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. + Navigating the complex structure of the legislative structure to produce desired results. Ability to: + Persuade and inspire others to act by speaking about religious freedom and constitutional issues related to ADF’s mission. + Effectively use grassroots networks to advance a policy agenda. + Professionally handle confidential information. + Make sound decisions under demanding conditions. + Be flexible to rapidly change priorities in order to respond to recent and changing legislative developments. + Willingness to work in a frenetic and fluid legislative/political environment. + Work, motivate, and initiate within a team and independently. + Travel frequently, approximately 40% of the time, especially during legislative sessions. Education and/or experience: + Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Affairs, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills may be obtained. 3 years minimum of professional experience involving government relations at the state level or federal level is required. + Experience in public policy advocacy at the state level or experience in legislative or executive branch work at the state level is preferred. + Eligibility to register as a federal lobbyist is required.
