Polish Senior Licensing Engineer – Safety Analysis (DSA)
**Job Description Summary** As a Senior Licensing Engineer – Safety Analysis & DSA, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Polish and international nuclear safety regulations related to Deterministic Safety Analysis (DSA), accident analysis, and licensing for GEH reactors in Poland. You will interact with the National Atomic Energy Agency (Państwowa Agencja Atomistyki, PAA), customers, and industry stakeholders to support licensing applications, regulatory reviews, and safety case development for nuclear power plants. **Job Description** Key Responsibilities + Support the Polish Licensing Manager, Regulatory Affairs in interactions with PAA and compliance with the Polish Atomic Law Act of November 29, 2000, and relevant regulatory frameworks. + Develop and review licensing application submissions for safety analyses and Deterministic Safety Analysis (DSA), including regulatory reports and responses to customer/regulator inquiries. + Ensure compliance with: + Polish Atomic Law and Council of Ministers Regulations on Nuclear Safety. + NUREG-0800, Chapters 15 & 19 ( _Safety Analysis & Probabilistic Risk Assessment_ ). + IAEA SSG-61 and IAEA SSG-2 (Deterministic Safety Analysis for Nuclear Power Plants) + RG 1.70 and RG 1.206 ( _Safety Analysis Reports for Nuclear Power Plants_ ). + Review accident analyses, transient evaluations, and deterministic safety assessments + Provide technical and regulatory guidance to internal teams and coordinate with GEH Engineering and Regulatory Affairs teams in Poland, Canada, the U.S., and the U.K. + Interface with customers, regulatory personnel, contractors, and industry working groups to support regulatory approvals and safety case justifications. + Assess defense-in-depth and safety margins for licensing applications and address regulatory concerns through robust analytical justifications. + Support nuclear power plant siting, deterministic safety analysis modeling, and licensing approvals using a claims, arguments, and evidence model. Required Qualifications Option 1: + Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline. + Minimum of 5 years of experience in nuclear safety analysis, licensing, or regulatory affairs. Option 2: + Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline. + Minimum of 3 years of experience in nuclear safety analysis, licensing, or regulatory affairs. **Essential Skills & Experience** + Strong technical writing skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English and Polish. + Expertise in nuclear safety evaluations and regulatory compliance for safety-related deterministic analyses. + Experience developing safety cases, transient and accident analyses, and licensing justifications. + Ability to construct persuasive safety arguments and develop counterarguments to regulatory challenges. + Proficiency in deterministic safety analysis methodologies, including: + Thermal-hydraulic and severe accident modeling tools ( _RELAP5, TRACE, MELCOR, MAAP_ ). + Single failure criteria and probabilistic safety considerations. + Experience reviewing engineering documents to establish regulatory justifications and compliance strategies. + Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills for engaging with regulatory agencies, industry groups, and technical teams. **Preferred Qualifications** + Experience with Polish nuclear licensing requirements and regulatory interactions with PAA. + Prior involvement in new nuclear power plant licensing in EU countries, the U.K., or Canada (CNSC). + Experience with BWRX-300 safety analysis, transient evaluations, and severe accident modeling. + Knowledge of defense-in-depth, redundancy, and safety classification criteria for licensing applications. + Working knowledge of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Nuclear Safety Standards, WENRA, and World Nuclear Association (WNA) guidance on deterministic safety analysis. + Familiarity with risk-informed licensing approaches, deterministic vs. probabilistic methods, and safety margin evaluations. **Additional Requirements** + Legal authorization to work in Poland or willingness to relocate (relocation assistance available). + Must be a citizen of Poland or a country authorized under the U.S. Department of Energy’s Part 810 Regulations. + Must comply with U.S. Export Control Laws (10 CFR Part 810, 15 CFR Parts 730-774) and Polish import/export regulations. GEH will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in their country of residency, including Poland for those residing in or voluntarily relocating to Poland for this opening. Relocation assistance is negotiable for those residing outside of Poland. Position is open to citizens of Poland as well as other countries that are on the generally authorized list under the United States Department of Energy's Part 810 Regulations. This position requires access to and/or use of information subject to control under the United States Department of Energy's Part 810 Regulations (10 CFR Part 810) and the Export Administration Regulations (15 CFR Parts 730 through 774) (collectively, “US Export Control Laws”).
