The Political Organizer is responsible for aspects of the Union’s campaign to empower and educate
members on the union’s political program. Executes contained aspects of the political program under
direction and supervision as well as assisting the union’s campaigns against federal initiatives that
negatively impact the membership.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
● Builds and maintains positive and respectful relationships with Union officers, elected officials,
community and labor leaders, and other potential coalition partners
● Work with the Political Director to develop and implement a statewide public policy and political
agenda throughout the region;
● Monitoring and coordinating aspects of legislative and policy reform initiatives that affect the
Union, worker’s rights, and social justice;
● Supports Field Reps in their political outreach to members, as needed, to develop member
interest in the Union's political program. Helps make the case for action & involvement, including
participation in ADF
● Training member leaders to facilitate workshops and conversations focused on social justice and
political awareness
● Planning events to engage members in the political work of the union
● Planning and coordinating campaign activities, grassroots lobbying, phone banking, and events
for our campaigns as needed
● Supporting campaign strategies, including rallies, press events, and targeted member activity;
● Tracks and manages regular member voter registration and PAC sign-up campaigns
● Provides briefings and education materials for staff and members around legislative and electoral
work
● Coordinating regional activity with staff working on national campaigns;
QUALIFICATIONS:
● 2-3 years of experience in community organizing, legislative, or electoral campaigns;
● Experience working with directly impacted people;
● Ability to train and teach people of varying skillsets around economic and social justice issues
● Ability to plan and execute large-scale events
● Ability to design and implement powerful and effective campaign plans;
● Excellent communications skills and experience building strong working relationships with
various stakeholders;
● Fluent written and oral Spanish required
● The ability and willingness to travel, and to work long hours, including evenings and weekends as
campaigns require.
● This position requires travel to various locations a Valid driver’s license and car with insurance are
required
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
The salary for this role is $61,770.00. 32BJ offers a generous benefits package that includes a fully
employer-paid medical, dental and vision plan (for full-time employees and their qualified dependents)
and retirement benefits, including a defined benefit pension plan and 401K. 32BJ offers paid time off
including three weeks’ vacation, eleven holidays, twelve sick days, and, after the first year of service, four
personal days. The union currently offers a remote work policy of one remote day per week at the
discretion of the manager.
