Polosomnographic Technician

Provides care for patients undergoing sleep studies and sleep disorder treatment.

Essential Functions 

Consulting with physicians and other healthcare professionals

Establishing treatment plans, operating medical equipment

Record patients' medical histories and symptoms.

Set up plans for patients' care or contribute to existing plans.

Observe patients and record observation.

Knowledge of medical equipment used in the care of the patient.

Teach patients and their families how to manage illnesses or injuries.

Collect, analyze, and integrate patient information to identify and meet the patient-specific needs.

Determine the final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician and Laboratory policy and procedures.

Follow Sleep Labs policy and procedures.

Verify identification, collect documents, and obtain consent for study from the patient. Explain the procedure and orient the patient to the center.

Select appropriate equipment and calibrate for testing to determine proper functioning and adjust as needed.

Follow procedural protocols for MSLT, PSG, Split night and CPAP Titrations and Home Sleep Studies

Score sleep/wake stages by applying accepted guidelines and score clinical events utilizing AASM standard.

Perform portable monitoring equipment preparation and data download.

Perform patient education and discharge instructions.

Non-Essential Functions 

Attends and participates in staff meetings in-service, projects and committees as assigned.

Adheres to and supports policies and procedures of STRHS Pulaski

Performs all other duties as assigned.
Must complete department specific education.
Must complete all assigned education in a timely manner.

Organizational Expectations 

Actively participates in Foundation Safety Behavior Tools and Tactics such as Briefs, Debriefs, Huddles, Learning Board Activities, Executive Patient Safety Rounds and reporting of unanticipated and unintended patient events regardless of where there is harm.

Minimum Education
One year certification from college or technical school, or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS)- must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
